This is a hugely signifigant date in recent Irish history when 150,000+ Irish people gathered on O Connell St on 27th Nov 2010 to force Brian Cowen to call general elections, and the following week it was so.

Wasn't that Dail dissolved in January 2011, mainly due to the Greens pulling out?

no, the next crowd of potential tds are witnessing the largest protest movement here since 1922 and it needs to keep growing so that corruption isn't as viable an option anymore. it's looking good on all fronts now the people are taking to the streets in huge numbers :pac:

you are correct but fianna fail government business still carried on right up to exiting office, the Nov 2010 protests forced fianna fail to admit the game was up and that day was the final nail in their coffin. the greens thought they'd save face by pulling their guys out but it was already far too late for them at that late stage

So, if we take the upper figure of 150000 people who protested last weekend (I'm being generous).

Last census had the population at 4,588,252.

So there were 4.4 million people not part of your protest. Hardly a critical mass.

It would work out just under 3.3% of the people protesting. Critical mass is an over statement. Current government have been doing a good job but the Irish water could be handled a bit better.

Ruth Coppinger on Newstalk yesterday said a person earning €95,000 a year could be called working class once they worked, but no one would be allowed under a socialist party government to earn over €100k, including those in the private sector.
She said this wouldn't scare people away from the country.
Like we can have elections but people will still elect stupid people

This march is hilarious though. A tiny minority marching to ask a democratically elected government to stand down. It's not as if they sprung the water charges on the electorate after they were elected.

You're forever calling these protests. What is it that you would like to see the government (this one or the next) do? You're very clear about what you're against, less so about what you are for.

My honest opinion is this shower is as bad as the others Kennys PR skills are brutal and he is like an 'Old Headmaster', I can remember Bruton, Gilmore and Kenny in opposition and I sometimes think what they would be like now if they where there.

But been honest what is the alternative to this Government ? I really cant see anyone else that I would vote for.

This country never ceases to amaze me - sure why not throw Bertie back in there.

I actually think this crowd did a reasonable job getting us out of the mess. I didn't vote for them but at the moment I would certainly vote them back in. Irish water was a debacle for sure but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that it will be fixed. Considering the water charges muted by the previous government, I'd be reluctant to let them near it.

An election in 2016 will do me, as I want to see the overall impact of their efforts in a full term.

Labour wanted to prolong the austerity budgets and increase taxes, which would have done more damage. They have done a better job than the other lot would have done, I assume, pity they were hamstrung by Labour.

If I were to rate the government on their term, it would be 40-50%, just about a pass. But we see the usual **** with IW amongst others. I still see very little if any accountability. House prices jumping back up, where a generation have to smother themselves in debt for a generation to afford anything even semi decent, in Dublin in particular. Outrageous childcare, health costs, couple in particular paying at the marginal rate on very modest incomes and being bled dry...

The ones protesting for the most part are ones I would have very little to no sympathy for, they are the ones shouting the most, but have the least to shout about IMO...

This government is the same as the last, we know from records that had FG been in power instead of FF then we would have ended up in a similar situation, maybe even worse. Since then most of the decision making has been done for us, yet the little bit that the government has to do they screw up.
