I attended the protest in Ballyshannon. A great turnout and not a political party banner to be seen. The speakers were not affiliated to any party, only one that I know of who ran as an independent in the last local election (he wasn't elected).

Everyday people from all walks of life and I'm glad I attended.

I think having multiple protests is going to make the movement look weaker. 100,000 people in Dublin would look impressive but the protests just look small in comparison to local populations as they are.

SF could walk into Gov buildings with a load of Armalites if they wanted to, but won't by the consent of a majority of the people.

Pretty good turnout here in Wicklow Town.
I would say upwards of 1,000 attending.

Organisers say 2,500 but it certainly isn't that high (that would be over 1/4 the population).

Having said that , more than I would have expected.

The only political banner I noticed as I passed was a SF one, which is confusing considering their privatisation stance.

Following protesrs on twitter seems to be a protest in every town in the country big numbers. Haven't seen anything like this before. Big changes in irish water coming soon.

You deliberately ignored my point or you did not read it properly.

EDIT. apologies, if I didn't make myself clear. I was saying that S.F prescence is not as big a factor as some would like the remainder of us to believe. The majority of the people protesting were not there in a political stance, other than to protest about water charges and Irish Water. I would estimate S.F prescence as no mor eor no less than in everyday life. They certainly do not OWN these protests. My point about S.F numbers was that IF they had the kind of support being suggested by some then they "would walk into Govt Buildings"

Surely that has to be the biggest issue shown today they are getting hijacked by other special interests, fair play to everyone who turned out even if I don't agree with what the majority are protesting against which is simply not wanting to pay for water but I really hate to see any issue getting hijacked by self serving politician's or people trying to use this display for their own selfish purposes

He's expressing his honest opinion about protests being used as a means to further political careers. Because someone has a different view as you does not mean the thread's hijacked.

I attended Galway protest. While I agree with water charges in principle I absolutely detest the monster of a quango this Irish water is/will become!!!!! I'm sick of this entitlement culture that wouldn't be out of place in 1980s Wall Street. I will pay for water but has to be commensurate reduction in usc and total abolition of Irish waster/water.

She is anti water charge. There was an organised peaceful and lawful protest.

Dublin traders would love that! They're already losing out from people avoiding the area due to planned protests. However, I agree that one big meeting would be more effective than having a lot of small ones.

At the protest in Dundalk a speaker told all the political parties inc Sinn Fein that the people would not tolerate any party who would vote for water charges. Sinn Fein not in charge today at all. Loads of working people there and certainly not run by SF.
