We are paying for water in a particular way (from general taxation). When pay by usage gets going we will no longer pay for it from general taxation.

I will be protesting with people who are fed up of being scammed and scapegoated to pay for the lifestyle of the rich and also of the idle.
I have missed 2 days from work in 40 years.

+1000 on that, its great that the hard working tax payer who has had enough gets out and protests,

Haven't they been using road tax to pay for the water since 1996? That's fine by me, because I don't drive. Others have been paying for my water. However I don't like the potholes the size of saucepans that I have to avoid when I'm cycling through Dublin north city centre.

But back to my main point; I have two 3rd level students in the house. No way should I have to pay money to buy potatoes for them. The government should be paying for all our potatoes from the taxes that we're already paying, instead of bailing bankers out of a financial mess that I didn't cause.

What's your objection to non workers contributing as well. Lots of them are better off than some workers. The only thing which can't be easily avoided is the property tax and utility bills. It is only restoring the tax base back to what it was.

It's the taxpayer who is being screwed for everything in this country. That's what he means and he's right.

Because the taxpayer is already overburdened.
They should have left it with the councils and put a nominal charge on it instead of setting up another overpaid quango of the elite. AND we all know it will be privatized in a few years too.

Wasn't just the bankers let's be honest.

Thousands of people wrecklessly borrowed for houses and now can't pay them back.

They expect the tax payer to pay for it buy writing off their mortgage.

In city centre at the moment, heading to a protest.

I like yourself and the vast majority of citizens in this country,have paid taxes through the nose.

As did our predecessors.

Only to see it all laid to waste by crooks, and self serving profiteers.While the whingers on here try to sully the intentions of decent people,with smear tactics.

If these individuals are so concerned,why don't they deal with the fundamental issues,that have corrupted this country?

The water charge is an important part of a bigger picture,and the financial consequences for a lot of people are relative.

I am constantly puzzled by the dogged intensity of these individuals.Who will defend the charge by any other means.

They constantly fail to come up with solutions,and negatise other opinions with tireless nonsense,as they stalk in the background

Falsely labelling citizens opinions,similar to what you expect to hear in Kildare St.

But they want us to pay, large amounts of water for what is a ****e service... much like rte.

The muck that they classify as water that gets pumped through the public system is some of the most revolting stuff iv ever tasted, and lets not even get started on the whole flouride thing.

When for example was the last time a resevoir was built in say dublin or cork?

As we know services wont be improved, so essentially we pay to provide another gravy train for the government.

One of the reasons we found ourselves in the almighty mess we have done in recent years is because we had a tax system that was fatally dependent on property related taxes. A pay by water usage model is , in the opinions of some of us, as step in the right direction to a more sensible way.

So by sitting home and staying dry, we are doing our patriotic duty! :pac:
