Closed accounts?

Aside from the odd sojourn to the computer forums, it's been a while since I have even looked at this site.

A while ago I noticed that some accounts had been closed. Looked into it a bit more, and found that you can now close your account.
Looked into it a little more, and saw that some of my favourite users had closed their accounts.

I'm calling shenanigans. I'd call them all pussies for not standing by what they have posted in the past, but that would most likely get me banned.

Why would I call them pussies? Because I know damn well that most of them have created new accounts, and are now pretending to be different people.

How do I know this? Because I'm a ****ing rocket scientist.
Ok, I'm not a rocket scientist, but my neighbour left a banger here the other night, and I know how bangers work. I'm almost a rocket scientist.

Seriously though; why close your account?
Were the people here really that nasty?
Did you post something really fúcking stupid? If so, why not just ask a mod to delete the post in question? They're not all dicks. Most of them are quite nice.

Maybe I'm just asking a stupid question, or maybe there are no stupid questions, and I'm just a stupid person. I just don't see the point in closing an account.

Wasn't ashamed of anything about my old account and would stand over anything written there but just closed it as a spur of the moment thing but I do sometimes regret it as I'd had it for ages.

I closed my old account after I came out as trans. I felt like that account just wasn't me at all, just some persona I had built up over the years, like a character I was playing.

Considered closing my account when people I know started commenting on my posts in real life. A few others know my username. I'm well past caring though so I'l be keeping this account. Did lurk Boards for years before I signed up.

I'd like to see a change your mind period after pressing the close account button. That would put an end to rage/drunken quitting.

I don't get the fuss over closed accounts. If a re-reg wants to make themselves known to you then they will. Otherwise, you'll probably figure them out pretty quick anyway.
