Yes we have a lot of experience at junior level...but Hassig have a lot of experience at intermediate/senior level, which I'm inclined to think counts for a lot more. They have a much bigger pick than we do, are able to field 3-4 teams at adult level (to their credit) while we can barely put on a second team. They have been much more successful at an underage level than we have been, and have consistently played at a higher level underage. Moreover its a 15-20 man game. Yes we have the Lawtons and O'Tuama but we also have a bare squad, have lost a number of important players since last year, and now have 3-4 19 year olds starting or close to starting that have almost no experience playing at a county level. In contrast the Hassig squad has lads experienced at Premier Inter/Senior level and they have the likes of Dineen and Aherne, who was one of the best center-backs in the county for years. In general their team is used to playing at a much higher level of hurling. We've been playing almost non stop over the past 7 weeks, close to every weekend, while Ballinhassig have had a nice break and showed much better form in the semis, hammering the team that knocked us out last year. All in all the smart money is most definitely on Ballinhassig.
