Tim Krul is facing a race against time to be fit for Newcastle United’s crucial clash with Leicester City.

The Magpies goalie withdrew from the Holland squad that lost 2-0 to Iceland this week in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

And as reported on Monday on Chroniclelive, Rob Elliot was standing by to take his place between the post against the newly promoted Foxes.

After further assessment, and a scan on Tyneside, it has been revealed the elbow injury resulted in ligament damage.

A club statement read: “Newcastle United can confirm that Tim Krul has returned from international duty after suffering an elbow injury.

“The Dutch goalkeeper has now been assessed by the Magpies’ medical staff and underwent a scan on Monday.”

if it's for a minimal length of time, i'll hang on for a week or 2 to sort out other areas of the team.

I'd go Chadli & Pelle myself. Both on a good run of form, Pelle scored on his debut scored for Italy a few days ago.

You can bank the money you save on chandli, downgrade pelle to welbeck whenever you want in the future, depending on how things pan out.

In 4 games for Arsenal, Wellbeck has scored 2, 12, 2 and 1. 17 points. He's averaging 4 points a game. He has 1 goal, 1 assist and 1 x 3 bonus. Arsenal have scored 6 goals and he's been involved in 2 of them in 1 game. I wouldn't class that as "gotten off to a flyer with the Gunners" tbh. His CL hat trick has papered over the cracks but that doesn't really effect us on this forum.

Currently have Pellé I've been trying to decide between them too, had come to the conclusion to stick with Pelle but the above analysis confirms it.

Have to take into account opposition if it is such a small sample size imo

Pelle's last 4 games were Swansea, Newcastle, QPR and Spurs

Welbeck had Man City, Villa, Spurs and Chelsea

Big difference imo

Well we have a thread on this forum which is dedicated to these non pl games and I notice that you have 18 posts on it. I'm not sure how his CL hat trick is irrelevant, it's the sign of a player who is in form, isn't that what this forum is all about. Every Premier league game that ever was is history now, we either got the points or we didn't. Aren't we here to pick up more points in future.
You can't ignore form wherever it comes, I won't even mention the difference in quality of opposition in the 4 game sample you provided.

You cant just discount a hattrick cos it happened to be in a Champions league match. It may not get him any FPL points but it will have given him a lot more confidence which he'll take into PL games and shows what he can do when on form.

I've seen most of his Arsenal matches though and I agree that he's hasnt really gotten off to a flyer. He's had 1 great game, 1 good game and a few average/poor ones.

I agree with your point re the tougher past fixtures but future fixtures is what we really should be looking at:

Next six:

Pelle: Sunderland (home), Stoke (home), Hull (away), Leicester (home), Villa (away), Man City (home).

Wellbeck: Hull (home), Anderlecht (away), Sunderland (away), Burnley (home), Anderlecht (home), Swansea (away), Man United (home), West Brom (away).

I've included the two CL games as they could figure in rotation.

The two fixtures I would really worry about Arsenal totting up big scores in are Hull and Burnley at the Emirates. I'm happy to take a chance this weekend though because Hull have reverted to playing five at the back and can be hard to break down.

By the time the Burnley game rolls around, I'll have assessed if Wellbeck is worth the move.

I'd also add that Arsenal are presently missing Chambers (next game), Debuchy (long term), Koscielny (chance of missing this weekend) Ramsey (another while yet), Ozil (long term), Arteta (another while yet) and of course Giroud. With that amount of absences, they may not play with huge cohesion and have already been performing below par.

It is irrelevant when you state he has "gotten off to a flyer". He hasn't in relation to this game. An average of 4 points per game for a striker at a top four club is not getting off to a flyer. Points in this game are what we care about on this forum. Not against a piss poor Turkish team in the CL.

Of course the CL hat trick is relevant to his confidence but it is not relevant to his point tally in the PL which is poor so far.

You talk about not ignoring form, Wellbeck's form has been far from exceptional. He missed a sitter against Man City when he was through. He could have had an assist against Spurs but instead performed a nice air kick. Against Chelsea he easily could have been sent off.

He's had one good game against Villa that counts in this game. I'm not discounting him but at the moment I'm happy to have Pelle ahead of him. I will be monitoring the situation ahead of that Burnley game though.

I'm STILL debating whether to go the other way and bring in Pelle for wellbeck !
I'd captain Pelle this weekend not sure I will wellbeck...I'm also bringing in fortser or a saints defender though and their fixtures turn nasty in 5 game weeks so not sure I want to have to use 2 more transfers to get them back out.....

I certainly wouldn't take Wellbeck out if I had him. I hope Hull are tighter at the back but they may not be. Saints play Sunderland who have been fairly miserly at the back themselves.

My apologies, I take back the statement that a player who scores 4 goals in his first 6 games for a new club in a fixture list that reads Man city, Dortmund, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Galatasaray (piss poor Turkish outfit) and Chelsea could be considered to have gotten off to a flyer. At the time it seemed a fairly innocuous statement, I'll put more thought into my future posts.

I've always said I place more emphasis on form than fixtures to be honest. Wellbeck plays for a club who should be more than able to score against City, Spurs and Chelsea.

In fact, they scored two against City and he wasn't involved. Liverpool knocked three past Spurs away (Arsenal played them at home) and could have had a hatful more.

I just think your statement painted an inaccurate representation of a player who has been far from exceptional for Arsenal in the PL. You can argue the CL game should have helped his confidence but he was poor against Chelsea immediately post that game.

Now I'll just wait for his hat trick at the weekend thanks to these posts

Its a typical person looking at stats and thinking a player has played well.

Watching Welbeck is another thing, hes been better than at United for sure, but still think Pelle or even Ulloa are better options.

He's got a goal and an assist in 6 games in the league.
Is that getting off to a flyer? I dont know. Its a relative opinion.
I wouldnt be making escuses for him just because of who he's played..he had some great chances against dortmund, spurs, sunderland etc and fluffed them.
He's a good player and will get better but I wouldnt let a hat trick in the CL gloss over the fact that he's only got 1 goal and 1 assist in the other seven games he's played.

Either way I'm done, all I said really was that I'd prefer Wellbeck for the future and I'll stick with that. It's just an opinion, I considered his goalscoring record to date decent also, albeit three came in the Champs league, he's been unlucky on a couple of occasions but I won't get into that as it can be said about anyone.

who would ya lose though from fabregas di maria sterling and siggy........I know sterling is "tired" and has Madrid on the horizon but QPR and then hull.....it would also leave me with 2 saints players to move out in just a few weeks..//

I wouldn't take siggy out. It's a tough question I don't have sterling and may well be taking out both fab and adm next week .
