RDF and civil defence ?

Im just wondering can you be in the civil defence and RDF or would they clash or is it even allowed?

I don't know for certain, but if there was a major emergency, which would you turn out for?

Technically no. You can't be in both. It is asked on the Civil Defence application if I remember correctly. In reality though I know PDF and RDF that are in the CD. Work away!

The reasoning behind is that if there is a natural disaster or invasion of the nation, then there'd be a conflict of interests. If ISIS start bombing the **** out of our country, do you go and fight as a soldier, or do you evacuate, rescue and care for the civilians caught in the crossfire?

But yeah, I doubt they follow up on these things so you can get the best of both worlds if you're willing to risk getting kicked out of both over it (doubt it'd happen though)

AFAIK you can't be in both organizations, I considered it for a while (joining the CD) but was told I'd have to be discharged from the RDF tojoin them, plus they don't play with guns and aren't paid (clarify) when they turn out so why bother?

In saying all that I do know of people who went with the CD while being par of the RDF.

Well at the moment im in the CD would love to join the RDF tho, the CD dont pay but then again if money was your goal, you d be barkin up the wrong tree volunteering ha

You get an awful lot of handy certifications thru em tho, with alot more uses than the RDF id imagine, so they re kinda payment in a way, pity yeah cant do both tho

I'd say research the work that both organizations do and pick one you feel would suit you better. I was in civil defense for a few years and found it a great experience. Call-outs for natural disasters or missing persons for CD is haphazard so I'd imagine it would tricky trying to manage commitments like work/school/family and then the RDF on top. I don't think you would get the full experience of either organization if you joined both at the same time.

Having said that the RDF does sound interesting to me and it would be something I'd like to look into in the next few months. It's a nice feeling helping people when volunteering along with the unique situations you get placed in. Best of luck op.:)

If you really can't make your mind up then, you can always join the CD after a stint in the RDF, as the recruiting age is older. It's horses for courses really, and you should properly commit to one or the other if you want to get the most out of either of them. There is no point being a half jack of all trades, but a master of none. It's a bit like asking should I join the army or be a HSE paramedic or a fireman. It depends what intrests you the most and what you have a passion for, you should have some idea at this stage. If you don't then perhaps neither is really for you. Like most things in life, you need to have a passion for the subject to suceed at it.

I like both, id rather be able to do both than one, if it was possible, i have joined the CD tho, and likin that alot!

I have a friend who did attestation with me few days ago in CB Barracks and they told him to quit Civil Defence on the spot if he wanted to join Reserves.
