toastedpickles wrote: » So bit of a problem with the 900, the other night when the storm was passing by the bonnet got took off and the car drenched, engine including, started it multiple times to dry it all out, and that was grand, went to start it tonight and it ignited and cut out, went to start it again, and nothing, the battery light is on, and then after two minutes the low oil pressure light comes on, so i checked the oil, its at the minumum level even though I haven't gone anywhere, and theres a milky white colour at the very bottom, so im presuming water got in down the filler neck, so my question How screwed am i?

Stheno wrote: » That sucks.would it be worth doing a full oil change to see how it affects it?
Dartz wrote: » Filler neck should've been sealed if it wasn't opened for anything. If it wasn't that long after running it, it might've all still been up in the engine somewhere. Some cars can show cream on the disptick if there's been moisture in the air or condensation in the disptick channel - especially if the engine's just been started and idled rather than driven. Being at the bottom kind of means nothing, really, that's just the last part to touch the oil. Might just be the battery/alternator not being to happy with a drenching.
Dartz wrote: » Did it even turn over? What's the coolant bottle like?
toastedpickles wrote: » No turnover, coolant is grand!
Bpmull wrote: » Do you have a multimeter or way of checking the battery voltage. You'd need at least 10v for it to turnover if not more as a good battery will gave around 12.7v or so. I've heard of that creamy oil look before it's can happen on cars that only get really short trips and don't often get up to proper oil temp so you get a bit of condensation in the oil. Which you 900 running in the drive mightened of often got up to full oil temp even if it was at the right coolant temp. You could change the oil as a precaution I suppose it certainly wouldn't do any harm to change it anyway as oil with water isn't going to have the same lubrication properties and all that. Maybe take a picture of the oil that you drain.
toastedpickles wrote: » I do have a multimeter actually, and I'll drain the oil tomorrow and run it through
Bpmull wrote: » Could you take the battery out of the 95 or a astra and see would it work then.

Lovely car to be in for 4 hours the seats are very comfortable. I'm glad I got one that has the upgraded seats as the baseline seats aren't as nice at all. Have it 6 months last week hard to believe its amazing how times flys.
