Curious about how many actually buy a dog license?
It is the law of the land after all,but I suspect a lot of people wouldn't believe you if you told them there is such a thing.

He was part of our household for 13 years. A guard dog, friend, pet. He was knocked down and left on the side of the road, died when we put him into his bed at home. Heart broken.

I have one. Its important to because if your pooch is ill a lot of vets insist on seeing the license before they examine the dog

Eh... No they don't!
Never heard of anyone being asked for their licence by a vet.

Had one for our dog of 12 years, and an inspector (?) called one day asking for it. Didn't think they were policed to be honest, so was surprised to hear he'd called to my parents house.

Nope, we live out in the country and the neighbours would have told us if there were any problems. He was a small, dopey dog that was fenced in if we weren't around, and rarely left the garden unless with one of us. Turns out someone earlier in the thread mentioned inspectors calling to their house too, so it musn't be that rare!

A little gem I found when researching family history: my great-grandfather was done more that 100 tears ago. The charge: "Defendant had on the 22nd day of April 1905 had in your possession or custody at xxx in said district and county, one dog not duly registered or licensed in accordance with provisions of Dogs Regulation Act 1865."

He was fined two shillings and sixpence.
