well folks, I'm halfway through a 2 week holiday from work and I've done nothing with myself other than waste precious hours doing nothing of any relevance.

Then I came up the idea of spending a year trying new things, new experiences. 52 new experiences in 52 weeks. They can be small, like changing a nappy, or big, like doing a bungie jump.
So far I've come up with a few like do a marathon, donate blood, first aid class, ride a horse etc.
Hopefully I do get around to actually going through with this list, instead of pushing it aside for the latest FIFA
I thought the best place to look for inspiration would be Boards, so what new experiences should I include? what would you lot like to try? what experiences have you already tried and would recommend?

Try and hit Level 77 with a Forest Elf in Skyrim. Know of a lad down in Galway who started playing the game a few months ago. He now looks like a ginger Rasputin and eats a diet almost exclusively made up of cider, microwave cheese burgers and doritos. But seems to have really taken satisfaction from this new experience.

Not strictly true, but as the nearest one is in London you will be going abroad.

For the country itself, the Irish Dept of Foreign Affairs says :

Go to a different country and embrace their culture. I went to America (1st experience). did the grain harvest (2). rode some bulls in a rodeo(3). eat mountain oysters (bulls testicles)(4).drove a lorry from Texas to north decota(5).went to Vegas(6).got in to country music(7).bought a pair of cowboy boots which I still wear(8).foaled a horse(9)

Some were big experiences for me and some were small. But they are all fond memories.

Why not do like that film "yes man" just be open to doing as much as possible that's new for a year and see where it takes you. In order to do one thing every week will put you under pressure and take from the experience.

Take horse riding. Will you just go and ride a horse for an hour some week and forget about it or take it up for a year and it might become a fantastic experience that you always have..

But a few other suggestions
Cycle to work.
Take up dancing
Learn a song and make it your party piece
Get a cat/dog
Volunteer for something.
Ice bucket challenge
Plant a tree.

I wish you all the best with it and keep us informed if possible.

Do something really lovely and over-the-top nice for someone you care about.

Could be anything from getting a plumber into your mams house to fix that dodgy tap, or take someones car away to get valeted. Or sort out your mates garden.
It'll make you feel like a right happy aul fool

Sea fishing
Surfing
Craft beer tasting
Charity cycle
Drive an expensive in mondello
Grow something edible at least once
Try a new invention/improve existing item
Try new food

Clean and tidy your house from top to bottom and do a complete declutter (I did that earlier this year and honestly the feeling of lightness and energy flowing is tangible!)

Read about stuff you never normally would

Get fit !

Yep got a serious pain in my b*lox in Toronto,was about to be evicted from my apartment,no work,fairly skint and hadnt travelled around canada so after talking to a fella who did it in the states and canada in a bar one night I packed a bag and hung around a freight train yard, was waiting a good few hours and eventually caught out on a canada pacific train to montreal,its actually a fairly underground culture over there,you meet plenty of train hoppers along the way some are runaways others just vagabonds sick of the rat race,I only wished I'd brought a camera....there's something about not knowing were your going to end up or what lies ahead that gives me a buzz,the freedom of it I suppose...I'm actually contemplating doing it again, only in the states this time.

Some amazing sights alright,was just over three weeks I think,I did Toronto to Montreal twice and a few short hops up into northern ontario,then my visa expired and I had to leave canada.

After having a think about the ideas, problems, methods, challenges, unforeseen events etc I think this might be the best option to be fair.

I had the thought of doing a blog of some sort to keep track of everything I did within the year. That was going to be my first pick; Start a blog.
But I think I might just pick 50 or so experiences and not put a time limit on them. It would let me enjoy them more, rather than feel like I'm simply working through a list for the sake of working through a list

Check local noticeboards for events you never would have considered going to before.

For example you could go support a team in a sport you know nothing about, or even just at a level you know nothing about, so if you're into the premier league you could go to a LOI match or watch some womens basketball or roller derby.

Go see a local metal band if you only listen to country music, or vice versa.

Find a local community project and offer to help out for a week.

Raid your nearest tourist information office for leaflets and go around your local area as an outsider.

Seeing your locality from other peoples perspective, both native and outside, can be very interesting, and it's an easy one if you're open minded.

23) Go to a Ireland rugby match

25) Butlers chocolate experience ( looking forward to this one :P )
26) Go to a gig/cinema alone
27) GAA match in Croker
28) The darts in citywest
29) Enter an amateur darts tournament (and get demolished 1st round)
30) League of Ireland game
