Esben and the Witch - A New Nature
Their first two albums showed some flashes of brilliance but tended to be inconsitent. Here on their third album they've taken a big change in direction. They've stripped away the reverb and gone for a more bare bones approach, even touching on post-rock at times, while still keeping their weary, gothic vibes. It took a few listens to really get into but I'd definitely say that's it's their strongest album to date.

I had a listen to this to and first impressions were definitely favourable. I didn't really "get" Lenses Alien ; listened to it three or four times and couldn't remember a single note of it after a while. Lose is definitely more immediate, if somewhat more depressing lyrically (largely written about lead singer's childhood best friend who died in a car crash.

I agree. I found out about them 2 years ago by pure accident and mostly because of the cover of "No One Can Ever Know", haunted me and I had to listen. Having been dying for this new album and it hasn't disappointed. I was expecting them to come back to Dublin in the next month though.

I was away for the gig last April!

Missed the Workman's gig myself because a friend couldn't go at the last minute.

I think if they're going to do Dublin it won't be till early next year, all tied up in US in November and then only one gig that is listed for Glasgow in 2014. Really loving the new album... that last song is a soul-crusher though.

It just came on there.

I know they won't be landing here before the NY. but we can but hope. To me October -December is the peak gig season in Dublin. That's when people should be here for their new album tours. But I'm an impatient bastard though.
