Cube Agree Pro vs Cube Peloton Race - Thoughts?

Cube Agree GTC Pro - Full carbon, Shimano 105 5800, 8.5Kg - 1299

Cube Peloton Race - Alu frame, carbon fork, shimano 105 5800, 8.9Kg - 999

Variance between the two (apart from frame) from what I can see are:

Different tyres - which I'll be changing anyway
Seat post/clamp - due to frame difference
Headset
Colour - not too bothered what colour it is

Usage will be commute and leisure/sportive rides from 50-200k. I'd budgeted for 1299 as that what the 2014 Peloton race cost so the money is there (via btw) but starting to think the extra 300 may not be worth it. Will the ride be that much more comfortable? Is the 400grams of saving worth 300?

I can't speak about the agree, but I have the peleton race for about 8 or 9 months now and about 5000km, and could not be more pleased with it. Only issue I had with it were the wheels, which were eastons and very poor and the saddle which I could not get used to.. I use it for regular spins and sportives and it is very well put together, comfortable to ride and very steady on the road. 105 is a great group set. At €1k it is outstanding value.

I have the agree gtc pro, seems to be a great bike so far, no problems but haven't used it much. Just out of curiosity where are you getting one for 1299, seems like a great deal, I think I paid 1500 for mine and that was the cheapest I could find at the time

The new 2015 models were launched last week and there were significant reductions in pricing across the board while not a whole lot has changed with the spec.

For the money I would go with the Agree GTC Pro. Its a great price.

Sounds like I'm on to a winner either way and this might be the only chance I get to go carbon with impending offspring due. Going to get sized on it and put a deposit down on the Agree this week.

Who is selling or taking orders for these? A mate in work would be interested in the Peleton Race at €999. Mind you the full 11 sp 105 groupset is €400 or less, so €599 for the rest incl assembly, is not exactly giving it away!

I have the 2013 Peloton, the base model with Sora. I really like it. I like the saddle.

The upgrades I made to it were,
Wider and thicker handlebars, and the stem (€70).
I put Campagnolo Zonda wheels (€320) with 23mm Schwalbe Ultremo ZX tyres (€60 for the pair).

It's about 8.1kg, without the saddle bag and bottles.

I'm looking at putting the new 105 5800 grouppo on it.

I was having a browse in CSS today and noticed an abundance of CUBEs all over the place.. I was with a friend who was inquiring about a Lapierre and she was offered a couple of different but comparable 2014 bikes....

Guy who was working the magic on the screen was telling us they have a good bit and will do discount... All subject to them having your size etc.... Might be worth a look for anyone interested in this thread.

Another interesting fact was that, in chatting to the guy I was asking him what was their most popular price point for bikes was these days... he said entry level carbon has overtaken the aluminium entry level bikes, capturing bike-to-workers, upgraders and pretty much anyone looking for value. He said 3 years ago they had guys on part time summer work practically spending all day unpacking and assembling aluminium entry level bikes! It's interesting to see the shift in the market.

It's euro. Comparable to similar spec model, Peloton Race vs Giant Defy 1, it's 100 cheaper but also has full 105 and better wheels from what I've read. Canyon/Rose probably best it or are the same but I'm using b2w and limited to a lbs.

I've been dealing with the folks in fitzcycles and they've been very helpful. Would not go near CSS again after shoddy service I've received from them in the past.

I have been researching the B2W scheme for myself (re buying abroad) and have found that the legislation does not prohibit such purchases.

I wonder what sort of ground an employer is on if they won't permit them.

Just as firm ground as any employer who might permit them, as while there is nothing in the legislation to prevent it, there is nothing to require that it be allowed either. Plenty of employers deal exclusively with one vendor, be it a single shop or a voucher scheme type company. There is generally no way to force private businesses to operate a particularly open procurement model, after all, so it's up to them who they deal with, and it is them dealing with the seller, not you.

I would disagree. The employer is not spending their own money and company procurement policy does not come into it. (There is no vetting of suppliers/ tendering for supply of services etc) In fact, no employer has the right to tell you where you can spend your money, or what products (brands) you are limited to, nor can the restrict you from negotiating the best price possible with that retailer. However, some employers are doing just that and that is a breach of a dominant position-which is not generally allowed. If an employee can get a discount by paying by EFT (cheque) rather than voucher, they should be able to do so. Its their money they are spending.
One very large employer has turned the scheme into a commercial venture for them by insisting on paying for all emplolyees purchases via a subsidiary company. This benefits the company at the expense of the employee, who must pay more for the bike. Again, this is wrong and is not in the spirit of the scheme.

Hey, I never claimed to like the fact that what I said is the case, and in fact I largely despise it, esepecially the businesses that have set up around "administering" the scheme on the employer's behalf, as they are. However, there is nothing in the law to stop the employers restricting the scheme (some public service bodies only offer it once or twice a year, for example) and since the employee is basically buying the bike off their employer by means of a salary sacrifice and possibly a top up, the employer has every right to choose their own supplier - in the same way, you can't tell your LBS to buy from a specific supplier. The employee in turn has the option to not buy from them and deal with the shop if they want (they don't have to use BTW), and remember also that really only the net pay (an any additional contribution over the €1k) is the employee's money, not all of it.

Crappy situation, but that's the lie of the land, unfortunately. Now, back to the topic, and apologies, OP!

None of the property in the goods bought by the employer for the employee is owned by the employer. It's all paid for and funded in full by the employee in lieu of th equivalent salary amount up €1000 of gross salary. Under the tax consolodation act, the purchase is not regarded as a normal business input and the employer cannot claim the VAT back.

The employer is only involved for the tax efficiency of the scheme. Apart from that, they add no value to the purchase and have no claim on the goods.

My friend will buy the aluminium Cube! He is delighted to get 11sp 105 when he thought his budget was limited to 10sp Tiagra.

I was happy enough to buy the Peloton race for 1299 about a month ago, getting it for 999 is a complete bargain imo.

€999 is a great price for the Peleton Race, I got the 2013 model on discount for €964 and am happy enough with it. As was mentioned earlier the Easton wheels are not great and one of mine was replaced after a lot of hassle. One other word of warning, get a good set of brake pads, the stock ones won't last long.

B2W voucher has come through so have pre-ordered the Agree Pro. A wait time of about a month.

Picked up the bike recently. Had to go for the Peloton Race but happy out with it. Only about 2 hours in the saddle so far, hoping to hit up some hills later this week. Might cold out there at the moment but best to just get on with it.

There seems to be different naming used by different shops which make it hard to compare prices.

For example, I found the Cube Peloton Race available in 2 shops:
1. Velocity @ €799: http://velocitybikestore.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=54
2. Fitzcycle @ €999 http://www.fitzcycles.ie/p/1558/cube-peloton

Now if it's the case that Velocity is €200 cheaper, then that's fine - but to my (untrained) eye they look like 2 different bikes.
When I dig down into the specs, they also appear to be different - Fitz Peloton Race has a Shimano 105 group set whereas the Velocity Peloton Race comes with the lesser Shimano Sora.

Similarly the Agree is €2099 at Velocity but only €1299 at Fitzcycles

Anyone else come across this or have ideas on how to get a like for like comparison?

The Velocity bike is incorrectly listed - that model is the Peleton Pro with the Sora triple chainset. The one from Fitzcycles is the Peleton Race with the latest Shimano 105. Great bike, I bought the Race earlier this year with the old 105 for €1299, so great value also this year!

I noticed a spec difference in several listings myself. Also most places list the cubes as having triples where as a double is more common.
