That's my 25th birthday present to myself. I've wanted one for ages now but need to wait for classic insurance!:( hopefully the price won't go up to much, although that's priced well and looks to be well minded. One of the few non italian cars on my bucket list

What it would mean f course is that your not paying for days the cars not actually been used.

Park up outside a hotel Saturday and Sunday - no tax payment.

They've got schemes for trucks in European countries like Germany - you've a small gadget in the windscreen - a go box - and it tracks when your on the road.

Think you top some part of the thing up - and as you drive along the road - it will make a bleep when you pass by or under something that senses your go box - that means its after making a deduction.

Problem in Ireland is that you just know theyd make it impossible to operate.

It'd be impossible to administer, it'd make more sense to go down the tax on fuel line rather than a daily rate.

That being said, if there was a weekend tax, at 1/3 the monthly rate, that could be used from 9 pm on a Friday to 6 am on a Monday I'd say they'd make a decent bit extra. I know I'd be running both alfas as opposed to just the gtv at the moment.

Caught on the road with weekend tax outside of that time frame and it's a 1000 euro fine, failure to pay leads to seizure by the sheriff. Allow the go safe vans to check for tax, anpr scans your number plate, shows that it has no tax/wrong tax and you get sent a fine. Afterall it'd allow the guardians of the peace to do just that.

A lot of the a-b people don't realise how many of us there are out there with more than one car, but we can only afford to have one road legal at any one time.

They were somewhere else the week before but we moved them. It's been a kind of running gig around here

So my sister just got a letter saying that her details have been passed onto the guards as the car is out of tax since the end of july, but she is telling me on the reverse there is a section to complete and declare it as been off the road/not in her ownership for that point.

Anyone know anything about this ? i thought the days of declaring a car off the road after the fact were gone.
