late bars/nightclubs in Cork that aren't pretentious

Hi,
New to Cork, love socialising and going out but as someone in their early 30s I am getting a bit tired of nightclubs full of tarted up pretentious people.

So my question is, where is good to go once all the pubs close on a Fri/Sat night?? Ideally, I'm thinking a late bar that pulls a good crowd, good music (rock-y/alternative), but that's still pretty lively, but not attracting the the under 25s. Does it exist?
I was in Voodoo last night, not a fan at all!!

Anyway, just putting the question out there, I may or may not get anywhere...

We always end up in either the Bowery or the crane lane! Crane lane can be very hit and miss but I've had some great nights there. Personally I prefer going out earlier, find the last part of the night trying to pick a late bar can be painful.

Being Honest I was gonna suggest voodoo. I always enjoyed myself there

I think you'll definitely find what you're looking for at BDSM/The Vicarstown.
Both bars are joined together. BDSM has rock music and Vicarstown has great alternative music. I was there last night and the place gets busy with a good mid 20s- 30s crowd.

One of the best bars in Cork IMO, especially if you want to give clubbing a miss.

Unfortunately there are limited options available when it comes to going out in Cork without meeting a ''pretentious'' crowd (not just in Cork though

)

As stated above, BDSM and the Vicarstown Inn are both pretty cool alternatively places you could try, likewise with Crane Lane, not a big fan of the music but the crowd is pretty laid back.

I personally enjoy Sober Lane, the Woodford and Mutton Lane and Deep South (awesome beer garden and generally a good mix of people).

The Old Oak is pretty much as unpretentious a late night pub as you would find anywhere.

No offence to the Old Oak, but it lacks atmosphere.
The music is your typical chart music type stuff and it has an odd mix of 50+ year olds, just-turned-eighteen Spanish students, lurkers who sit at the bar leering at girls, and everyone in between.

Just nothing interesting about the place at all.

I'm not entirely sure what pretentious means in this context, but I normally find people who avoid people for being pretentious to be exactly that themselves. What exactly do you mean OP?

Meh, "hipster" is the most over used word in the world at the moment and its subjective as to what you find a hipster to be.

Pretty sure those who I work with consider me a hipster because I listen to music which is not always in the charts.

There are people who I consider hipsters for other reasons.

Anyway, non pretentious? Very few places in Cork are pretentious. Maybe places like Meade used to be, but every pub is the same at 12.30 more or less.

Cork is one of the least pretentious places I've ever been, and that's why I love living here! Back home for summer in Belfast and it saddens me to see the kind of places that are opening up now.

Strange, I've only heard good things & I've gone there once myself for a staff night and loved it - nice big beer garden

I liked Deep South, but the crowd has become a mix of Reardens and The Classic people which has tuned me off the place entirely.

Ha, I did the door of the Classic for yonks. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the clientele either; ignorant rural people in their early 30s with a few pound as well as a bunch of jumped up rugger heads. The worst of both worlds.

How is pretentious being defined - it seems to be that if a place that does not play chart or rock and roll then its pretentious. People are pretentious not bars. e.g I like BDSM but I bet there are pretentious people there, with Deep South, I agree with the forced queueing is silly, bet there'll be one for the Henrys weekender.

The Old Oak is a great spot IMO, if your a bit legless and cant get in anywhere the Old Oak will always take you. Always have a good night in there meeting all sorts of different people.

Vicarstown is another really cool spot, good music and nice beer garden.

Sober Lane is another good bar but its not a late one.

Just stay away from SUAS its doesn't get more fake and pretentious than that, with there ubercool house music. And Soho is far from pretentious, you will never see a bigger load of scumbags in one spot, strongly AVOID. My nights in there are some of the worst I have had in town.

I saw some absolute bloodbaths occur outside Soho when I was doing doorwork, I think it's gotten a bit better now but at one stage there was regular and serious hassle there.
