Enigma is a Linux based alternative to the default Spark operating system on these boxes. Enigma is a more customisable OS and provides the ability to add plugins which can accomplish many tasks enabling users to have a box which might look and perform like a Sky box, giving a 7 day EPG and an alternative to series link

You can run autobouquets and set it to fta only. That way the pay channels won't appear.

Well I've noticed the first problem with my image. When watching a saorview the spinner appears every few seconds and the box slows down. Hopefully it's something easily fixed. Will have a look tonight.

Edit: could be my hard drive, it's only happening on one of my boxes, let me know if you download my image if this happens to you or not

This software is in beta so expect a few bugs but on the whole it is quite smooth. Software updates are coming almost daily so check for updates regularly. (Menu - Setup - Software Management - Software Update)

Any idea how I would install Transmission on this? The last version of Open ATV I tried I couldn't find it in the plugins.

It's a torrent client, you can download content straight to the box and watch it. There are apps for android, you can also send it from a PC.

Do you have the same skin on both boxes. I cannot use the new sky skin with saorview. Box slows down and spinner appears. Only fix i can find is to change skin.

Terrestrial and Satellite channels all scanned. AutoBouquets also working now

This image is working with the following plugins:-
AutoTimer, AutoVolumeAdjustment, AutoBoquets, CrossEPG, CoolTVGuide, Various Skins, all Picons, Time from NTP, OSCam (blank with sample lines), automounting your HDD, Streaming, SambaServer, RTEPlayer, OnDemand and finally Permanent Timeshift (turned off).

If you downloaded last night or today, I'd suggest you go again

Hi, I'm using a different sky skin called BlueHD. It's working fine on one box and not on another but I think it's down to my hard drive. It may be on the way out. Going to reflash in a while and see if there's any improvement.

As for the transmission plugin, I'll try find it tonight.

in the plugins menu - press green button - to download plugins - wait......
go to extensions and transmission is there

Have you managed to get HDMI-CEC working (turn off tv when box goes to standby) the settings in that Extended system menu don't seem to work.

Also note to anyone using the FTA flag in Autobouquets in this version it doesn't seem to work.

I've just managed to upgrade to Enigma.

Question:
If I want to go to a different Enigma2 image, must it always be done by reverting to Spark OS first ?

Or is there a way to install an Enigma2 image direct , if booting into Enigma ?

I've read most of the threads of Spark/Enigma (Exhausting !) and can't seem to extract an answer to that.

you don't need to go back to spark, but it might be easier if you know that way.
Championc has a good read me file with his images, might save lots of reading of posts

I'd suggest going via Spark. Works every time and will only take about 5 minutes tops. You can even use Spark to take a backup of the current image if you have made changes to it.

So you can always try my Image and go back again (#nevergoback !!)

Nice backup. Like the new Skin. Cannot get it to work with saorview though. Spinner and sluggish when on saorview.

The Terrestrial.xml needs updating too. Got green screen on first scan. New .xml fixes this.

Yeah saorview seems to slow it right down but only on one of my boxes which is weird. It's running fine on my box that had a usb3.0 hdd connected.

Could you post up a link to the new .xml?

Can I ask how difficult to use this boxes are straight out of the box? I enjoy messing around with my receiver when time permits. But right now, I need a box reasonably quickly and I want to plug it in, load Saorview and Channels & UK fta channels.

Reasonably simple, just go for one of the better images and not the openatv betas that are around at the moment as there's not quite there yet.

When you get your box just load up one of the images. My hyperion v4 image in my signature is quite stable. Then it's just a matter of doing a scan of the sat channels again, run autobouquets again, scan saorview channels and put them in the favourites bouquet and bobs your uncle.

Regarding stability has anyone ever had issues with the interface hanging while playing back recorded programs?

I'm running givecredit's last hyperion4 image and maybe once every 1/2 days I'll have to do a reset with the 7 taps of the power button when it hangs as I pause/play or rewind or something like that.

Interestingly the busybox OS is alive and I can login and run top and reboot. Just the interface is hung and the openwebinf is down also. I can't find any logs of interest. I saw comments about running enigma in a sort of debug mode, but enigma still seems to be running so I wasn't sure that would get me anywhere.

Since I don't see any comments like this I'm sort of thinking "it's me not you" somehow, and I have tried a second USB HDD with a different cable, and different skins.

With this in mind I've been thinking of switching to OpenATV but maybe I'll try something older (maybe openarp) first while I wait for it to get better? Or maybe openatv is worth switching to considering I'm used to regular resets anyhow. I've got a backup of my own image at the moment, and I'm confortable with switching, it's more time that's an issue.

Despite my problem, I am grateful for all the generous folks who take the time to make their images available saving us a lot of time setting things up. So thank you all!

Thats a major flaw in most images especially Hyperion.
I tried a number of hard drives to rule out drive issues but I still get playback of a recorded programme stopping every so often.

To remedy it I press the right button once then press ok and it resumes after a few seconds.

Every so often a recording can fail too and the box locks up requiring a reboot.
It happens on Hyperion,Ar-P and HDMU although HDMU was the best for me but it had tuner fail issues the odd time.
Could never find the reason for this ,its a rare occurence but an annoying one.

Where is the CacheFlush settings on this? I can't find it anywhere.

Also does anyone know what line of code I need to use Cron to do a daily reboot?

Something seems to have went wrong somewhere. It's installed but it's not appearing in plugins anymore. I noticed this yesterday and tried reinstalling it but it still didn't come back to plugins. Maybe try the image without it and see how you get on.

Championc had code for deleting the crossepg folder every week. He probably knows what code to use to reboot.

Have you noticed any slow down on the saorview channels?

Yeah Ill have to try and flash again, It was working great for a while then I went into the HDD Mount Manager and got the green screen.
It's slow all around after that. EPG won't reload after reboot etc. I will try again and let you know if I am having the saorview issues.

On my image, CacheFlush is in the Plugins.

Why look to do a daily reboot ? If you feel the need, you need a new image TBH. Use CacheFlush or a swap file (setup in HDD Manager on my Image too).

If you're still hellbent on going the Cron route, use this
* 4 * * * /usr/init.d/reboot

Many people take images like mine below, flash them onto the box using the instructions in post #2 of this thread and then leave them alone, to work away in the backround. I understand the views of others saying to stay away from the Beta OpenATV but I can't find much wrong with it to be honest. The only feature I can find so far that won't work is HDMI-CEC.

The box that I did the backup on is still working fine but I tried flashing it on a second box and was having a few issues. Mainly the box grinding to a halt on saorview. I loaded up today's nightly on it and have started setting it up again but this time I'm keeping all the built in plugins like autobouquets maker. All seems fine so far as long as I don't try and use the blueHD skin. Using matrix skin and I haven't seen the spinner once on saorview. I'm going to try another sky skin tomorrow and see what happens. Too tired to work on it now!
