I've gone ahead and picked a quick team to get this started:

Krul - 4.5
Mannone - 4.5

9 mil spent

Debuchy - 5.5
Baines - 7.0
Shaw - 6.0
Dunne - 4.5
O'Brien - 4.5

27.5 mil spent

Fabregas - 9 mil
Walcott - 9 mil
Sanchez - 10.5 mil
Odemwingie - 6.5
Shelvey -5.5

40.5 mil spent

Dzeko - 8.5
Bony - 8.5
Jelavic - 6.0

23 mil spent. That's a decent stab for a first team IMO. Players are underpriced compared to other seasons IMO.

Krul/Elliot would have been the better choice there IMO. Newcastle should keep about 11 or 12 clean sheets. West Brom will be lucky to get 6 or 7.

I did this last year with Southampton
went boruc and Davis
both of them got injured at same time

If I was picking my GW1 team again, I think I'd go with Lloris over Begovic. Lloris and a non playing second keeper is 9.5 million.

The keeper situation was the easiest decision I had this season (behind picking Siggy at £6m). Pick De Gea + £4m non player and then worry about it whenever I play my wildcard. Theres a debate on having Begovic instead of De Gea due to United's weak back line (shown against Swansea) but overally it's a pretty easy decision either way.

De Gea 5.5m + Howard 5.5m = 11m
De Gea 5.5m + Foster 4.5m = 10m

There is another 1m. I mean the 2 above pairings of keepers start every game, but only 1 can score you points.
However, it is also worth looking into rotating your keepers i.e. De Gea is your starting keeper, but if they are playing City/Chelsea, Howard/Foster should be subbed in.
See which "sub" keeper will rotate best with De Gea, who are they playing when Utd have a high possibility of conceding.

I'd downgrade Dzeko for a cheapo striker but if you want to keep all the money up front that plan makes sense since Hutton looks like a nailed on starter. Think it might be a bit short term move though. I would prefer to have Chelsea cover than not.

You have 2 quite expensive defenders...most points are made in midfield/forward positions (in my opinion). I would rather have 3 starting defenders @ 5.5m for 16.5m and spend elsewhere, than having 3 starting defenders @ 4.5m, 6.5m and 7m for 18m. You have 1.5m to invest elsewhere. A goal can come from anywhere and ruin your clean sheet, your main area of scoring points for defenders.

Barkley has been transferred out for Siggurdsson! I didn't realise he was injured until after the deadline

Thanks for the tips, they are much appreciated. I'll look at getting rid of one of the goalies so once I decide which one to keep! Anything else I should do? I have £2 in the bank so I can afford to upgrade a player or two if needed

You can tell you are new to it...you picked a totally logical, balanced side with 2 very good goalkeepers :pac:

Put too much faith in United having a strong opening season, and if they keep going like this I'll have to ditch Mata & De Gea at least I'd say. I have basically the same team as yourself, but I used the 2.5 for Lamela/Jelavic instead of Siggy/Fletcher.

Cheers man. Cazorla is 8.5m. I don't expect to have him long term, I think he could be a nice differential for week 1 and maybe 2 though. Will be making plenty of changes in the first few weeks.
