Its clear that the only will dualism wont happen next year is if Cuthbherts rules it out as jbm amd walsh interviews this summer,clearly show they are all for it next year.

Colm O Neill is coming from playing Junior B hurling in North Cork. A class footballer who is one of the best in the country but he wouldn't make the Avondhu senior hurling team.

Thinkstoomuch there's no doubting your knowledge of the game but as a limerick fan I'd have to mention a few things. I know these games are in the past though but I think you are being harsh on Limerick to be honest with you. I appreciate this is the cork thread also if you'd prefer to discuss on the limerick one.

Personally wouldn't agree that we rely on passion fire and brimstone like the stereotype suggests. Our plan this year was to keep things tight in defence and burst out of defence with support runners and let direct ball in to the forwards. I felt it was a nice brand of hurling and far superior to the hip and whip which we used till recently.

The wet weather on Sunday suited both defences as it made it very difficult for forwards to control the ball giving defenders opportunities to get in and spoil possession. I felt we tried to play more short passes than KK and the sliotar was like glass.

The Munster final was set up for Cork to win. Ye had three games played versus our one and ye had a much shorter wait to the final than Limerick had and you saw how we coped with the wait against Clare last year. The match was in Cork and that has to be worth something too. If you were using a rugby analogy you wouldn't expect Munster to win in the south of France too often! Add in to the mix it was vital Cork won that final. The second goal that day came as a result of Hickey trying to force things a bit but I felt ye were always going to win. I wasn't too disappointed with our performance that day. A bit like a horse not getting up the Cheltenham hill if you like.

Goals came at crucial times against us and in both games we started to chase the game and once we went behind we were in trouble as we never looked like scoring a goal. This is without doubt a flaw in our game. We got four goals against Wexford (two of which were lucky, and 2 against Tipp one which was a wonder goal and the other a 21 yard free pre the Nash change)

Moral victories are no good to us and all we have are newspaper clippings for our year but reason for some optimism at the same time.

Imo regards Colm as a potential hurler i disagree with your view.
Imo from what i have seen both at intercounty u 21,id rate Colm way ahead of Mark collins as a hurler,but correctly,he will stick to football where he is much better at it.

Colm o neill was outstanding for cork 21s,v galway 2007,won a munster title,got a goal as many wouldnt even dream of getting a.goal worthy to grace any game,in a game our old friend james mcgrath gave galway every fifty fifty decison ,a game we lost in extra time.,a team that had shane o.neill,eoin cadogan,pa cronin,pa horgan starting and stephen moylan coming on as a sub.

Colm was a great ball winner and like in football,had one thing on minds,goals when the chance arose.
He is a much better footballer,but would have been similar to John fitzigbbon,not a man that would bag you four or five points,but a goal machine.
He would if he was a hurler walk on the avondu team,name six better forwards than him there.

Peter o brien,mannix,hayes,pa callaghan would imo be the best,but Colm would defintely see game time if he was hurling alone,as he would have if committed to played colledge hurling with CIT at colledge level also.

I wouldnt be fast to knock junior b clubs,or small clubs,when Killeagh st itas produced harnedy,Kilbrin with egan,Grenagh with Kenny,and the likes of lisgoold,buttetvant, all had Hurlers that won medals,and reperesented cork at various levels in past days
Castletownce roche,produced Jonathan o callaghan a terrific hurler,in 2004,played in senior championship,very unlucky not to start,and Ger Hedigan.u21 munster medal winner in 1992 i think.

Strong team, but Bonnar and Callanan could get purchase out of Ellis and Cahalane and there's no real option to cover for those two, and if Tipp decide to pull Corbett out and use his pace on Egan, they could very well get through for goals.

Cork look to have to have the better spread of scoring forwards and a more settled midfield, but Tipp look like they have the better defense. Maybe more crucially, Tipp look like they have more options on the bench, we saw how important quality subs were last Sunday, especially in a tight game.

Hard to call it, but I think Tipp will get the goals and the defense will be content to give Horgan frees than risk goals.

Tipp's greater know-how should see them through.

A huge week for cork gaa.
Cork v mayo ladies football v mayo.live tg4 saturday at six,hurling then sunday.

Simo zebo is on rte gaa show tommorrow ,a former st Michaels gaelic footballer,in wet day 2002 ,killarney drawn game,same day ireland v spain world cup,he payed at half time in the post primary school game for Cork.

Best of luck to Anna Geary in the rose of talee starting next monday,current cork camoige player.
Will she as her party piece ,bring her hurley and sliothar on stage:-)

Murphy should be there ahead of either Cian McCarthy or Coughlan, not Lawton.

Lawton has done nothing of any.majior significance,bar a brief cameo v waterford,imo hes been poor.

The league games in offaly game and tipp,he didnt want to know.

No way should he be ahead of Coughlan.
Lawton even for ucc,i was a fan,has been poor this year for ucc,in what he can bring.Now of course John Horgan in the Echo,a good reporter will add on to lawtons performance simply hes a castkrmatyr man.

Typical example of club bias.The other lawton ,i mentioned here,had a good game sub in the intermediates last.week,but Horgan went out of hes way to.mention it but not once did he mention by name the outstanding.game colm barry had.

Cian mac,id agree ,i wouldnt have next year on the panel,but id have him ahead of lawton,as with cronin being an injury risk,cian offers us at full forward,an option in the square,lawton or or murphy wont bring.
For cians lack of pace,mobility,he has hurling but at least he has game temaparment and gets stuck in ,something imo lawton failed to do this year.

I agree id have luke,but to be fair to management,he is just back from a bad injury,and for a player that touch and pace is parmount to hes game,he has little hurling done so sunday came too soon for him.
Murphy should be there.
Coughlan is a far superior hurler and player to lawton,like lawton can play midfield or half forward.

If Jamie Coughlan comes on,imo it must only be at midfield or half forward,must not be corner forward.Like lehane,too much pace,a free spirit to stay confined in to the Corner.
Best games for Cork and club Newtown,at u21 or senior has been half forward line.

Debut v Tipp in 2012,he was superb
,scoring three points ,and had a hand in many more.Named at corner forward,He Roamed out and used hes pace.
A late starter v Waterford,got a superb goal that year.
Against Kilkenny,last year superb at centre forward.
Has a touch ,second to absoultey no one in the country and a tough tigerish attuide.Always demands.the ball.
One of few Cork lads to perform v Tipp in the u21 nightmare in Thurles from half forward last year.
Named and starting at half forward,he was our liveliest forward ,always on the ball.

Hes greatest strength is hes touch and skill and pace.
In the 2009 County final at just 17,he got a goal and a point.Newtown named him at corner forward but he did not stay inside.As part of Newtowns running game,he was deployed away from goal always around the half forward line picking up loose ball.
He imo,got the best goal of the day,picking up a ball,running at pace,beating a top class fast corner back in Conor O Sullivan the process to drive it home.

In the u21 Munster 2011 final Coughlan was anomoyous at corner forward.When the penny finally dropped with management after a full hour,and in extra time Jamie went out,half forward,four from play.
In 2012,he got three points from play v Tipp.Again when drops out to half forward hes a better player.

As Cork need two ball winners in half forward line,and Harnedy is both a ball winner and a hurler,there is just one position imo for Coughlan,thats lehanes,and its unfortunate Jamie finds himself vying with him for a start.Jamie is withoubt a doubt intercounty standard .

If Lehane gets injured or an off day,Coughlan I have no doubt can do a job.He is not just a nice hurler but relishes the rough stuff also,like Ben and Jerry,stylish but tough as nails.

At CIT,Pat Mulchay played him at midfield in some games and he had a superb season for them there in the coal face of battle.
He came on in last years all ireland final,had a good game should of been a sub ahead of naugthon in the replayed final.
Had trouble with a back injury,thankfully its cleared up now.
A super player,no way should he be dropped from the Cork panel.
At all levels and for cit,a much proven superior hurler to lawton imo.

William kearney is meant to be on the extended panel,sarsfields,daniel twin.
Woth a look next year ahead of haugney,
Can play five or midfield,fast hands,good touch,crisp striking,robust type of hurler ,playing hurling all year,that is a merited call up.

Win or loose sunday,spillane,sullivan,murphy,cronin,kearney,possibly michael walsh,jamie nagle,colm barry,pa callaghan if wants to should all be added to the league panel,Cork should enter the.Waterford crystal cup,and be trialled out for the 2015 hurling championship imo.

Ιn relation to My criticisims,Browney of limerick are valid imo,and in relation to cork ,i had no fear or would not have next year of Limerick but would hope we draw when the draw is made for 2015,draw limerick above all of the other teams,and I would relish such a game. I had and i said in May on yere thread ye wouldnt win any all ireland under this set up.

Im going to do just one post ,on it,as Cork match is on the horizion here.But you asked for an understanding of my thoughts,which is fair enough.
I could of course be wrong just my opinion on what i saw on tjs coaching so far.

I judge him as a manager,in my concerns.I was a huge fan of him as a player,one of yere best full backs ever in limerick,would of walked on most teams and if we had a similar player sunday,we would,i have no.doubt win.I dont doubt hes commitment,or passion as manager.But you need a certain skill ,aptiude soley in a coaching capacity be a Great Coach imo.
Reading a game as a player and coach is slighty different.

Lack of games is not a justifable excuse imo,cork beat clare last year coming in cold.If the lack of games was too big a ask,kilkenny sunday and in past years blew that out the window.I agree its far from ideal,and can be a hindrance,but.imo not a majior issue on its own to blame a defeat on.

People can clutch for straws,we did not get the breaks,were unlucky,god we never get luck etc etc,im not one of those fans i believe you win and loose for a reason 99 per cent of the time for reasons you can control,the remainder is outside your control,the ref,and injuries,neither of both was a reason ye lost last sunday.

All through yere season,yere fans said tj was slow to make changes.The same was sunday,one change after a half,seanie tobin,clearly a player not suited by heavy conditions,bar a point,the contribution wasnt great.People now based a one point loss,see him as the Master,when in truth that was a Golden Oppurinty lost.

Tj Ryan made a woeful call in bringing back Niall Moran,i said it in the limerick thread many times,he was never great ,but compeltely past it now,(he should be coaching with shane fitzgibbon yere u 21 team ,much better than what ye currently have imo) Moran bar a brief promising cameo in Dundrum v Waterford in a challenge,6 weeks ago,was recalled on past reputuations,and even on that note he was never Great.

Mike fitygerald superb in the 2007 ,,season,but hardly worth a panel place seven years on,in there is better younger talent avaible,like Adrian breen superb with ucc,won a fitzgibbon cup,and top scorer limerick senior championship 2012
,better imo than David and jake aherne,both young talents worth developing that former players whos best days of hurling at senior intercounty are over imo.
When cork settled,we upped the ante,we reacted on the sidline limerick had no answer.

The core of year team have been their,the last three years ye improved a bit this year but are miles of an allireland ,and despite both lynches,nash ,,morrisey coming through unforunately imo be lost talents at senior as the game plans they play at senior will be akin to limerick the last forty years,direct and orthdox a complete contrast to wallis and cregan and mckennas style,in they play a mix possesion and direct style ,and have two different styles unlike anything they will have under tj ryan.As proven despite poor performances defensively by o mahony,and o brien this year,even tony considine said they should be dropped,The recall of hes former teammates,the inability to make,necessary changes during the course of a game,and the ruthless streak to make changes.Ye will be organised,disciplined,but still lack that bit extra next year ,imo as limericks sheer defiance to a non traditional game,will hold ye back like it has done the last 40 years.

Martin brehony had a good article where he said the talk that limerick being so good,yet so close,they are not far away will get their as ,next year,dont,always bear fruit.

Limerick were poor at u 21 with tj,he had a year with o grady,now one year this year,so the inexpierence views and tj suddenly worked wonders on a moral victory, but loosing imo doesnt convince me.

waterford pushed kilkenny to extra time last year,on dry day,doesnt mean they suddenly were as shown this year close to the all ireland.

Watch yere minors sundays,win,and imo, will now win the all ireland.
Watch them make changes fast if needs be and have a plan a and plan b.This is a superbly coached.team,in any grade yere best coached team in years.
Wallis bring innovation,meticolous attention to detail,new fresh training drills,it is never stale,brings an ability to read a game also.
Watch the tg4 clip v tipp,where he is beside brian ryan ,clearly discussing tactics.
Brian ryan is good in facilating the others and good with the media,and deserves credit to be fair,he allows everyone do their job.

Joe mckenna,brings astute,knowledge of the game and a super ability to judge a player to the fore.

Cregan brings fantatsic coaching on improving players,touch,striking,basic skills etc
Mcdonagh ,works on the defensive side a top top coach.
There is huge passion and pride like in tjs set up for limerick hurling but so much more in terms of tactical nous,modern game plans imo you need to win an all ireland.

Wallis a cork man ,brings so much passion to limerick,as he loves hurling so much,he coached cork hurlers of hes own back with Seanie mcgrath the trainer (not the current selector)hes own expense travelling to mourneabbey and mallow,coaching the cork hurlers when they went on strike,despite knowing doing it could rule him out of potential cork jobs in the futute just to keep them up to the pace in fitness ,touch etc,when they would be recalled for duty,all because hes so passionate bout hurling.

I hope ye dö wi., i always rated this wonderful minor team and will cheer for ye sunday as if it was cork,the corks fans will cheer for limerick with anthony nash cousin playing,jerry wallace ,,conor boylan son of dave a cork man,the outstanding,Paddy o loughin,playing hurling with chareville cbs

Imo that one point,loss is more a hindrance,as based on it,ye now gave him a three year term,and imo if people looked at it at face value yere farther from an all ireland than ye think imo.
Cork football unfortuately are in a similar predicatment to ye.I feel for geuine limerick hurling fans.

Its not inconcevable ,if we have a poor year,next year,Cork Footballers would like limerick rush through a new term,no pre warning,county board officers pulling a rabbit out of a hat,after saying sunday they would Take a few weeks to review,,as Cuthbhert like Tj,was always the boards Choice from day one.Our county board are similar in their school of thought at times. A swell of emotion after sunday,they strike when the iron was hot ,appoint hin,no review done.I prediced that would happen,i said it would here,when he was appointed,its not any great foresight from me ,its just limerick and cork county boards are like an open book ,so easy to read at this stage .

When yere still not winning next year,ye cant change as he is in a three year term.This was in soccer terms Newcastle giving Alan Pardew an 8 year term on success in one season,good,but since then.its been poor and likely to get worse.Cork and jbm has made mistakes,but crucially the team is.much better than last year.Is limerick better?
Marginally,but then John Allen was.hardly great.I see on the other thread allen came in for critiscim regards hes assement of Sunday.That doesnt suprise me,i always said tactically he is not a great reader of the game.

A splendid article by cusack,a real articulate read imo.Such a passionate and intelligent article in a hurling sense.
Im a well known huge huge fan,of harnedy,have ran of superlatives,words to truly justify hes Excellence to Cork,and many times lauded him,but at last a writer in the media gaves him the credit hes due in Cusack imo,fair plays truly magnifies hes brillance.

To me Future Captain of blood and bandage.
Cusack was spot on about one cork forward shying away from a challange in last years all ireland.final.
He was 100 per cent right regards.Pat.horgan,turning a corner,and standing up(jbm deserves huge credit for having a role in that)and.hes similarastion of Cronin to timmy mac getting unfair critiscims.

Thanks Browney and best of luck to yere minors on Sunday,they are a superb outfit .I see yere teamed is named,one change but also Colin Ryan is moved from half forward to half back,even winning back to back Munster Titles,Wallis and company,always strengthens the team,and depending on the oppositon,picks a horses for courses selection,as Ryan has a defined role to play if he swtiched back.They don't like Cody rest on their laurels.

If ye loose it won't be for lack of prepartion,or organsition or talent ,it will be ye are just beaten by a better team,and.their is no shame in that.The only slight fear is Galway are coming under the radar but still I'm sure Limerick have their homework done,and I fancy ye.I'd be shocked if ye loose.The hurt and pain of being robbed last year imo will drive ye on Sunday to win.

Kilworth beat Inniscsrra 2-13 to 1-10 tonight in the Intermediate Hurling Championship.
I read a good article today regards James Woodlock,he's tortreous road to recovery after similar to Paudie Sullivan he broke hes tibula and fibula 3 or four inches below the knee resulting in a break in seven places that he was told he would never play again but cycled 20 miles a day up hills with just one leg,tied to a pedal just to build back up the leg muscle.

It is an Amazing,absoultey Amazing story like Paudie O' Sullivan.I want Cork to win Sunday but you could not begrude guys like Woodlock All Ireland success in the future if they get it.
Whatever happens sunday,guys like Pebbles ,Woodlock,Shefflin,Colm O'Neill,the list is endless and All deserve hugh respect and admiraton for playing again after horrendous injuries.

Mark Collins and Luke O'Farell are not in the match day 24 for sunday but made the 26 travelling up with the team for Sunday.

Collins has huge big match day expierence,with the Cork footballers,travelling to Croke Park,surely it be better bringing Cormac Murphy etc along like Shane O'Neill in the 2006 All Ireland Final,to get him used to big match routines in Croke Park,travelling with the team etc.
It is bad enough he did not make the match day 24, but it is worse again imo he is not included in the travelling panel of 26 for the match .

It could be a close game,as both are very similar teams,but with Kisssane,Cian O' Sullivan,Flangan,Niall O'Mullane, add in the Ned English Factor,Clyda may edge it.

I don't think for one minute Cusack or anyone is saying ,Harnedy is as great as Henry as he.has a lot to harrow what king Hepnry has ploughed to even come close,but merely more.a comparision imo to Henry in terms Harnedy can be as great a single influence to Cork Hurling.as Shefflin was to Kilkenny Hurling in that Henry in time became irreplacable for Kilkenny.

Even now Harnedy is the single.and only Cork forward imo,irreplacable in he has aerial ball winning,scoring points and goals,full of hurling on both sides,pace,atheltisicm,graft but also big game temparment,can play ten to 15,with ease and is a Future Captain of Cork Senior Hurling.
The question is more of a case of When and not If he becomes Captain of the Cork Senior Hurling team imo.

As great as Pa Horgan is and vital to Cork,if he is out,Lehane can take frees,or Cadogan Can also,and Paudie or O'Farell when fully fit , from play could play a similar role to Hogsie ,but if you take out Harnedy like Shefflin in Kilkenny,it's impossible to replace them with players of equal quailty .

Shefflin has said many times himself he was not exceptional as a young player but worked harder than others to improve no end ,practice makes perfect so to speak.
The reference was more to Harnedy doing likewise , in that he can then be as Great as he can be.How Great Seamus Harnedy becomes,only time will tell.
I would not worry in the slightest about how Harnedy deals with pressure as he proved time and time again,he is like any Great Sportsperson in Any Code,he relishes and thrives on pressure,it brings out the best in him,he rides out through the eye of a storm and comes out the other side of it as he has the modesty ,temparment ,honesty and inner resolve within himself to do so imo.All he needs is to be lucky and remain injury free.Like any sportstar,that factor remains out of he's control.

That was just a bit of banter re Henry/Harnedy. I wouldn't be that precious about Henry.

I'd also be a fan of Harnedy's but in a toss up between himself and Horgan the latter wins hands down. True Harnedy has spirit, guts, determination etc. Horgan though reminds of a sniper. You set up the targets for him and he'll shoot them all. As a free taker, I think he's the best bar none. He's never let ye down on the frees. Anyone can take frees. The question is can ye take them when the chips are down. As we saw in the Clare match he's liable to do something outrageous. From open play, left or right, he's lethal on the ball. He might not put in the hard yards that some think he should but IMO that's a clever management of his energy. If there's one person you want fresh going into the last ten minutes of a match it's Horgan. He was key to ye nearly catching Clare in the drawn AI.

The way I read it was Cusack was saying that Shefflin and Harnedy had similar underage careers but Shefflin went on to be an alltime great. Hopefully Harnedy has a long career ahead of him and that he can continue improving.

Anything is possible if you work hard.

The ladies are 0-07 v 0-04 ahead at ht having played against a strong wind. Staunton is of course playing very well but we have missed 3 easyish points from in front of the post and only about 15 yards out. I think with some long fast balls into our full forward line in the second half we will surely score 2 or 3 goals! We are playing well enough to win by at least 6 or 7 if they keep it up.
Cork are excellent at pushing up for mayo's kickouts and are causing them serious problems which will be even more evident against the wind.

Cork won with a 'workmanlike' performance and very good tactics but double figures for wides, will give them something to work on. With 9 mins to go there was only 3 between the sides before we got the first goal. Our defence was simply fantastic. Always having a player on the edge of the box as cover and great funneling by the forwards stopped Mayo getting even a sniff of a goal. Rena Buckley got player of the match.

As i thought Clyda v Newecestown,it was a war of attrition,dogged,real good game in another way.
I thought Clyda would win,but a draw was a fair result,no real current senior intercounty stars with Newecstown like Clyda compared to other teams,but christ what bottle,courage,sheer refusal to be beat by both teams with an unbreakable team
Spirit.Tremendous credit imo to both teams.

I have huge admiration for Newecstown as a club also.
The replay sounds like it will be a close game,simiar to tonight and i would not be suprised if its extra time.
Either team imo would have a great chance of beating Bishopstown to get to a semi final ,but while either would provide Stubborn,defiant reslilance to Castlehaven,imo Castlehaven would be too strong and will get imo to the Cork Senior County Football Final.

Congratuation to Cork ladies on what sounds from reports here was a great win for them.
