But you should definitely definitely report it.

Even if the law doesn't catch the bastards, they'll have it on record and it may assist them in building a profile of the sumbags. They'll also keep a closer eye on your neighbourhood if they suspect a return visit there from the scum.

And while it might be too late for you, there is a chance it could prevent the same thing happening to a neighbour.

Also, as Hmmm said a few post up, the non reporting of crime allows politicians a perfect soundbite when the stats suggest crime rates are falling.

We all know its bullshít (you more than most now), but unless every crime is reported, the stats will continue to lie.

Report it. It only takes a few minutes, costs nothing and can't do any harm.

You have my sympathy also OP.

The violation of a home, is to my mind one of the commonest and worst crimes that can happen. I'm not in any way downplaying the seriousness of "higher tier" crimes such as sexual assault or murder.

In the past year, I've seen the damage that is done to people by such attacks on the home in two cases both involving elderly neighbours in a rural area. The incidents caused fear, distrust, severe anxiety and a loss of the lust for life in the victims. These and other effects are of course not limited to elderly victims.

Time and again the justice system is blamed for allowing these criminals to walk free with previous convictions for assorted crimes sometimes numbering over 100. It was with some satisfaction that I noticed that this was at least noted by a member of the judiciary in the past week.

A different type of crime, I know, but it serves as an example of the type of people who are out there.

I hope that I'll never be a victim to this type of crime, but if I ever stumble upon these types in my home, if my courage and strength don't fail me, I'll make it a day to remember for them.
