But those were lower CO2 emissions which was a short sighted basis to move forward. It's only one very small component of the pollution and the one with least local impact.

DPFs of course have just moved it from "large" particles of soot which resulted in emphysema, COPD, asthma and other breathing disorders into "small" particles which had not been subject to the same level of assessment and are now being associated with cancer and other diseases.

Paris was so bad a few weeks ago that they split car usage, odd numbers one day, evens the next. Oxford St is London still seems to have the highest localised issue in all Europe and that's bus/taxi only - two categories of vehicle proposed to be exempt from Boris's charge.

In Lisbon at Christmas I noticed signs excluding certain diesel vehicles (age related) from the city entirely.

In Ireland Avoiding road tax on something decent maybe?

Could be a similar situation in the UK, somebody has it for a year has their fun and their done.
I'd be kinda concerned, maybe its service history is sketchy.

Have it checked out by a decent/reliable mechanic either way.

Refilled again today. With mostly town driving in the blazing sun and stuck in traffic, the car averages 27mpg

I'll take that!

Must do some more long runs and see if I can improve the 34mpg, I have changed the fuel filter since then

Cancer seems to be the excuse for everything these days. Which is rather funny, as being alive is the leading "cause" of cancer (it's basically a by-product of our existence) , which is why you can say just about anything is associated with it.

Don't forget the butter now is healthier than it was for last 10 years - so glad I didn't stop using it.

The recent studies on everything make me laugh really, I am not scientist but everything is cancer, just like you said.

Here she is. 2004 Ford Focus 1.8 TDDi (wanted a Ci but sure...). 128,000 miles, 2 owners, very tight nippy car. It is the lx spec (hypocrite, I know), but it has air con and the quick clear windscreen on both front and rear. Will be straight away be putting front fogs in and a set of 17 st alloys.
