It's the annual "help me off this mountain" day

Now I understand climbing a mountain is a nice personal achievement, but most of these climbers are not fit to climb it. It's a very steep loose shale mountain, not to be taken lightly, some of these assholes do it in their feet. Darwinism at it's finest. Can we not put a big sign at the bottom, "DANGEROUS, CLIMB AT YOUR OWN RISK" and leave them up there, we have better, more needing uses for the rescue helicopter.

In fairness though it probably serve a good purpose to have all the tenderfeet climbing on one day. At least the rescue team can consolidate all the injuries into one day.

Could you imagine the pressure on the emergency services if there were the same amount of injuries spread out randomly over the year...

Culling the herd is more efficient.

Hundreds of people climb it on random days. About 100,000 every year apparently.

Last Saturday an Irish Coast Guard Rescue helicopter had to airlift three casualties from the mountain in separate rescues after suffering leg and head injuries.

There were 3 casualties on Reek Sunday 2012 and 12 last year, 3 serious according to the internet. Must be something to do with safety in numbers, keeping most of the herd out of danger.

Because it's really irresponsible to go up there in flip flops. It's not like it's the most challenging climb in the world, but for the last half hour of the ascent, you are skidding around on very loose rocks and a liability to those around you.

If I rememeber correctly, it's the idea of climbing a mountain when not physically to do so and in bare feet.

I'm in (reasonably) good shape and I've been up it. Wasn't easy.
