Apart from being fined, they could be opening themselves up to being sued by employees too as it's basically a consider health and safety issue i.e. exposure to noxious smoke.

Completely forgot about the ban, and lit a cigarette off one of the candles on the tables. Barman was just looking at me with this baffled look on his face, and I was looking confused at his bafflement. Then it hit me and I ran for the door.

It doesn't matter if it's only the boss and his mates left over, if someone is being paid to serve them then the law is being broke. sure, the op could leave his paid for pint and get out but why should he have to? And what about the bar staff who are stuck there? The attitudes here are typical of the hypocritical bull**** you see throughout the country. Everyone wants to get rid of corruption and see the law obeyed, except when it's enforced on them.
TireeTerror wrote: » Hey OP, seeing as the vast majority of posts in here are from cnuts,, and you've been personally insulted by at least one moderator, I suggest seeking revenge by posting the name of the bar and also taking legal action against them. So many muppet posts by clowns trying to justify illegal actions because it makes them feel like a rebel against the state by smoking or drinking after the bar is shut. Fact is it is illegal, and if someone is being called a sissy for questioning having a pint in the pub, then suddenly finding the doors are locked and ashtrays being handed out, well they're the morons in my opinion. Now it seems like a funny joke when gardai and the like are now making their own rules. Yet I'm fairly sure we would have seen the same loud mouthed posters up in arms about same Gardai in other situations which did not benefit the public, screaming outrage like "Its one rule for them, and another for us!" or "Do as I say, not as I do!" So you should have been able to say to the barmaid "Excuse me but it is not permitted to smoke in a licensed premise" and that be that.

So you are constipated, with the worst constipation you ever had in your life. Because it never gets better. You end up screaming in agony. There are no drugs the doctor can give you to make that pain go away. You are stuck with it. The best you can hope for is that after hours of agony, a bit leaks out. Then your friends and loved ones have the humiliation of mopping you up like a baby. Then, after a couple of hours, the agony starts all over again. Until finally, you die.
TireeTerror wrote: » Smoking crack is also smoking, is that permitted? Dont like it? Fcuk off away home. You see the principal is the same. It is illegal and therefore it is not allowed, it does not matter if it is tobacco, class A drugs or anything else, the law exists and is not to be enforced only when it takes your fancy. It may not be the popular choice, but the law is the law and if you want to smoke in a bar, best YOU are the one to leave and find a country where it is still legal.

TireeTerror wrote: » Wrong. It is not up to the owner of the bar to start inventing laws, he has to enforce them. Why do you think they lock the door before doing it, so they don't get caught. Criminals the lot of them. They should all be locked up for a very long time where they can reconsider their attitudes.

My points are based upon principal though, where do you draw the line if we are going to start flouting the law? Why should it be illegal to smoke crack or take marijuana or anything else, its my body, surely I can do what the hell I like and Governments can jog the fcuk on and mind their own business? Why should they tell me when and when I cannot drink alcohol? The reality is this thing we call society has laws which we employ Gardai to enforce. So if you want to be a criminal and do what you want, then thats your choice and you can face the consequences. The problem I have is with the general trend of this thread where people have made out as if the OP is a sissy, a grass and all other manner of things purely because he questioned the fact the publican was breaking the law and spoiled his enjoyment of the night. Smoking is either going to be permitted or it is not, and as it stands it is not. So its straight forward, next time I'm in a pub and I see this happening, I will be discreetly recording every single person in the pub, the person dishing out the ashtrays and then I will inquire at the bar as to why people can smoke, then when I get the "Its a lock-in" crap I will engage in a conversation as if I'm in support of this and lure the staff member (hopefully the owner) into talking about why they do it and how they are aware its against the law but that the Gardai turn a blind eye to it. I will then report it to the Gardai anonymously while in the bar without anyone hearing. Then when they fail to respond I will then pass it all on to the press and post videos up on youtube and then we can all witness the law being enforced to the maximum of its capacity and hopefully a lesson will be learned throughout the country. I shall make it my one man mission!!!! Then I will be on a campaign to ban smoking in public places, and then ban it altogether. Hopefully that will be the next goal of the EU puppet masters.

As for the lock-in being illegal, I would imagine its the purchasing of alcohol that would be illegal, not just being present. I stand to be corrected on that of course, but I am basing that on what I think to be true. What actual law would I be breaking by standing in a bar?
