Dundalk fans are a funny lot

We always bring good away attendances to Bray and always have a fair few at UCD.We'll go to Tolka in good, good numbers but you'll never see many of us at a Shamrock Rovers match.We'll go to Longford with a good few buses full but not Athlone and we'll have crowds in Galway but never realy in Sligo!

Nice venue on a nice day, but really, it's one away trip I was never keen on.

There is a reason why fans do not travel to Tallaght in large numbers but thats another debate altogether

Always wondered that about Bray too. Have a soft spot for them as well. They should be able to get more than they do (although to suggest 2-3k is pushing it) as it's a pretty built up area, the ground is right in town with no big GAA thing gong on.

It is a woeful ground for away fans though. Unless it's a sunny evening, it must be one of the coldest away ends.

Dundalk fans have no problem going to Tallaght when they're doing well, like all other clubs. It has ranged from 10 fans when Dundalk were being beaten 7-1 a few years ago to 1500 or so for the Setanta Cup final against Rovers.

Clubs that bring the same amount of fans no matter what tend to be Bray, UCD and Pats.

Or the fact that our fans were attacked before the said Setanta Cup final and many more times too..

We brought 200/250 odd last Sunday and I can guarantee if the game was anywhere else in Dublin we would have nearly doubled that

DCC have seemingly told Shels and Bohs to "talk" then go back to them with some plans for a municipal stadium.

I think the preferred outcome (from a DCC perspective), from a few different options are

1. Groundshare in a redeveloped Tolka Park
2. Groundshare in a brand new stadium (probably Ballymun near Ikea)
3. Groundshare in a redeveloped Dalyer

That sounds positive from DCC, now I hope the clubs can agree on something.

Expected those 3 to be heading away from Tolka but not before the end of the season

Would it not make more sense for both clubs to move to different Dublin suburbs and make them their own, like Rovers did with Tallaght.

Doesn't make sense for Bohs to be moving any time soon, not unless we're given a free municipal stadium. Selling Dalymount for less than our debt burden without anywhere to go would be pretty silly.

well, Shels tried that and it hasn't worked - and Phibsboro is pretty much Bohs territory as it is.

What do you mean by "move"? To where?

There aren't many "suburbs" far from where they both currently reside.

Maybe they could merge, move to Fingal and get a hipster name like Torpedo Fingal or Sporting Swords or something...oh wait.

Bohs to Blanch would be my preference I think. Similar size to Tallaght. Would make for a serious Bohs-Rovers derby!

*That is if a move was necessary to clear debt or what have you. Dalyer is ideal for time being. Might need a bit more than a lick of paint however bit still:pac:

Bohs a bit further NW towards Blanch and Shels a little further N or NE would make some sense - there's lots of "suburbia" to be tapped into in both directions.

Whether it would work or not is another matter - Bohs moving too far from Phibsboro might alienate their current fanbase.

The fine people of Fingal are not into football, so Shels moving CLOSER to them is a silly suggestion.

So where should they go? What "Suburbia" is North or North East of Drumcondra? I'm from the area so...

Malahide? Portmarnock? Coolock? Artane?

Santry is a non-runner because of the runners (lol!)

Swords didn't work before when it was their "own team" - so they'd likely ignore a transplanted team even more.

The fact is, DCC won't build a municipal stadium unless Shels AND Bohs are going to use it, and Fingal CC don't have the money or builders to do it any more.

So it's going to be a move either into Dalyer or Tolka (and the story is that, for whatever reason, DCC's preferred option is Tolka), or potentially the greenfield site next to Ikea.

It's all well and good Bohs fans talking about Blanch, or that Dalyer should be used, when neither of those options is currently on the table.

There’s a slight difference between moving a club from A to B and starting a new club from scratch. Dublin City was a failure too, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a football-going public in the Whitehall area.

Not sowing anything here mate, just pointing out that moaning about having a bit of trouble at an away ground and then when same supporters visit your ground and they are treated equally as bad by your supporters is a bit rich in my opinion

Wouldnt normally comment on this type of thing but that statement is utter nonsense, Oriel (& its immediate environs) is easily the worst ground I've ever been to on the island of Ireland for trouble... my own father (in his 70's) has been spat at, abused & threatened up there (whilst sat in the stand) on more than one occasion, I've yet to see any elderly supporter visiting Tallaght subjected to the behaviour I've experienced first hand in Oriel Park.... & i can assure you we are far from the the only visiting fans to have received such levels of abuse. Its one of the reasons why I stopped travelling to games there. I'll go to any other LOI ground but there nowadays.
