When I had the focus I bought 20 of them led 5w5. I used one in the boot and that was it. Why I bought 20 of them I don't know. Not much point in putting them in the golf as it has plenty of interior lighting first car I've had that has decent interior lights. You can also turn on all the interior lights including footwell with a button in the front which is really handy specially when it's dark and you can't remember if you put something in the back or not.

While were on the topic anyone know what's the story if your car has a blown bulb warning system and you want number plate LEDs is it just canbus ones you need.

Some of the canbus ok ones don't work either. I never got a set to work on a Leon of the same vintage as the Golf. You might be better off buying a set of the original VW LED light units. They're a straight swap AFAIK.

You can actually buy vw number plate light units. I was more curious that anything else the normal number plate lights dont really bother me. Other than the fact the right one keeps working then not then working. Probably just a matter of changing the bulb it never flags the warning though so maybe it doesn't warn about blown number plate lights I'm not sure what way the system is on the mk5 golf tbh.

On the subject of alloys, would getting my original 14 year old alloys reconditioned be worth it?

I reckon it would, kinda dress the car if that makes sense?

Ya, are they bad? Makes a big difference to the look of the car if they are done right. It's pricey enough though I think.

They are fairly manky, given I've made the effort to do a lot of cosmetic work on the car they can let it down, I'm thinking at the minute of replacing the mirrors (cos one of the people who owned it before glued them so they couldn't be moved, and they are in bits, so I have sourced a new pair and would get them resprayed) and getting the front resprayed as I did mirror to mirror before, so the alloys being done would mean it was pretty much in top condition cosmetically, once I repair a rip in one of the leather seats.

Makes a big difference to how I mind the car if it looks good and I am proud of it lol.

And my birthday is coming up!

Yep, definitely worth being refurbed.

If you picked up a secondhand set they probably be as bad.

And a refurb would be a helluva lot cheaper than new alloys.

How does it work do you know?

Do you have to take the wheels off and drop them in, or do you drop the car in and collect it when the wheels are done?

You could probably leave the car into some places if you don't want it sitting outside the house on blocks.

Kinda been a long journey with this car as I'm not a car techie, but am kinda amazed that I'm at a point now where I've fixed all the mechanics, and looking to make the car look great. (cam sensor and air inflow hose excepted)

After the service last week, it's incredible to drive, finding it hard to think of replacing it, even my mechanic who hates alfas (but always does a super job for me) said it was in the best condition it's been in since I got it. I've noticed a huge change in mpg as well, it's gone up about 10%

And I'd a colleague today admire it heehee

Its worth it if you plan on keeping it long term and if unlike most women I know, you don't park by touch :P

It's extremely unusual to see them with any kind of serious rust. That one must of been poorly repaired at some stage and used where salting of the roads is a frequent occurrence. Scotland would be my guess.

Wheel wizards or nothing. Either get them done right or don't bother tbh. That'd be my view on it.

I really wouldn't bother if you're selling it though. It's money you'll never see back.

Yeah very little, more recently I've been covering more but it's practically nothing. To put it in perspective I've had the 3er for 2.5 years (ish) and bought it with 121,000miles, it now has 128,700 miles madness really considering the tax.

And in other news, my renewal came in the post yesterday 150 extra over last year, 800 quid for TPFT. What a joke! Just got a quote with AIG who are quoting me 700ish for similar cover, slightly better really, windscreen cover included as well as step back no claims cover. Stress of shopping around, already getting the usual online bullcrap of not quoting because I apparently drive a rocket ship of a car:rolleyes:
