Teen Porn Laws gone mad?

This case caught my eye. Some lad has been taking pics of his todger and sending them to his girlfriend. That in itself stikes me as no biggie.

He stands to be sent to jail and be on the offenders register for pics of himself. Is that mad?

Police of obtained a warrant to photograph said todger and to induce an erection by drugs. That strikes me as way over the line.

Under Virginia law, anyone in possession of obscene photos of a juvenile is technically in possession of child pornography

Does that not mean that the court is basically sanctioning the creation of child porn by taking pictures of the guy's dick?

In fairness, he kept sending them to a 15 year old and was repeatedly told to stop. Sounds like he wouldn't stop, so they charged him with the only thing they could.

The crime isn't even for sending them to her, it's for creating images of himself and sending them to anyone.

Too young to take a picture of his own cock but plenty old enough to be hauled through the courts for it. Makes perfect sense.

Unless it ended up with her suffering some form of trauma I don't see the point. The difference between a 15 and 17 year old is minimal, and it does say that he was her girlfriend. I doubt it was the first time she'd seen his penis.

Sex between 17 and 15 year olds is legal under Virginia law. He probably should have stopped...unless she didn't have a problem with it? In which case, what business do the authorities have getting involved?

I look back at my own parents and my wife's and there is absolutely nothing that either would have done for us - they wouldn't take shoite though and they'd certainly let us know where we were falling short of their expectations

OK, so if I'm understanding that right, the issue isn't even so much that he was sending the pictures to a 15-year-old, but that he was possessing and distributing child pornography of himself??

I suppose we better start arresting every teenager for child abuse so, they're all interfering with themselves. Sending dick pics is a pretty stupid thing to do, but the fact that it's even a possibility that the poor lad could end up on the sex-offenders register for life over it is insane. That could literally ruin his life, all over a stupid decision that didn't hurt anyone. Teenagers having sex or engaging in sexual behaviour with teenagers is not the same thing as adults having sex with teenagers.
