This is a forum for people to ask for advice, and in some cases may be experiencing difficult personal circumstances. For some people JobBridge may be a good, and welcome choice for them. Thee is to be no more mention of JobBridge being a scam, fraud, etc (or any discussion among same lines). There may be a home for that kind of discussion on Boards.ie but it definitely isn't here.

Hi Had a letter from Social Protection inviting me to participate on a TUS Programme. I have done an internet search and there seems to be very little "chatter" about it from people who have been on it, does anyone have any experience of it? I know how much it pays and a broad idea of what type of jobs etc, but would like some first hand experience from people in the know. Sounds a bit like a CE Scheme.

"Jobseeker's Allowance and Tús: If you get a place on a Tús scheme and your spouse or partner is claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JA) in their own right, he/she can claim an Increase for a Qualified Adult with their JA. Your income from the Tús scheme (as a single person) is then assessed as insurable employment against their JA payment.

Participants will retain any extra benefits and the medical card provided they are still eligible."

Just got a letter from TUS and was wondering if anyone might be able to help with some info!

It seems that I may not be eligible as one of the requirements is to have been receiving Jobseekers for at least 12 months - I just finished a degree so I was getting BTEA until two months ago. I would rather not be forced onto this scheme as I can't imagine anything offered would have anything to do with a degree in musicology. Can I use the 12 month requirement to avoid placement?

Here's an example for you guys:

Mick and Mary are on JA, seperate claims.
Mick gets the 188 and Mary gets the 124.
( max 312 per wk assuming no kids )
Mary gets called for Tus and goes to 208
Mick then claims for Mary on his claim
Mick goes to 312 less means
Means calculates at 208. (Tus wage ) less 60 and take 60% of the balance
Means is 89
Take this from Micks 312 ( leaves a bal of 233 )
So the household is up 119 per wk for Mary going onto Tus.

She's not a QA, as she is getting a payment herself, her TUS payment.

The rules state that you can claim an increase for a QA on the basis they are not getting a payment from the department in their own right.

No, the additional top-up amounts paid in respect of Tús, CE Schemes and JobBridge are not taken into consideration for Medical Card means assessments.

I'd have an appointment set up for you with the local office on the Monday immediately following your Friday finish date on Tus. I would have issued you with the appropriate paperwork ans assisted you completing it ( just 2 forms ). You would go directly to a prearranged hatch on the day - no queuing with general population. For those who enjoyed the placement, but unfortunately found no work to avoid signing back on, it's the worse day they have had in long time so we try to make the transition back to DSP payment as painless as possible.

if its anything like when Job bridge ended, you just call back into you local office and tell them you finish your year on X scheme. they take your pps Number and get you to sign that your circumstance haven't changed and they re open your JSA case from where you left off.

Usually both are looking for work as it is, as a matter of fact there are benefits to having a separate claim each even if there is no extra money and extra hassle signing on.

A co-dependent can not receive a BTEA payment should they decide to take up further education, they can't avail of springboards training. The can not get a BTWEA payment should they try to set up a business or have a potential employer avail of the jobplus tax credit which make it cheaper to employ them so they are at a disadvantage in some scenarios.

The single joint couple payment suits the DSP and government as it has one person on the live register and not two. However remember every adult who is looking for work has a right to a job-seekers claim.

Yes this is the case, it is seen as a job and nothing your TUS supervisor can do about it. It would be the same in a real job, once you earn over a certain amount (342 euro... i think) you must pay PRSI. Regarding tax you are being taxed as a single person because you are not married you can not receive your spouses tax credits, again this would be the same in a real job. As a result of not getting her credits you pay tax.

To me it seems strange that a government body the department of social welfare see you as joint couple, yet another government department the revenue refuses to see you in the same way. Again this is not unique to TUS, rather the way the government treats people who cohabit outside of marriage.

Contact the very helpful Irish national organisation for the unemployed the INOU - http://www.inou.ie. They may be able to advise you and your spouse on other options, maybe such as you reducing your payment from TUS to 208 euro (single person rate) and your spouse getting a jobseekers claim in her own right for herself and the kids.

I rang today but the woman wasn't that helpful, to the point of being a b***h. Almost as though she was looking down at me for being on a tus scheme. She said that because we weren't married I was being judged for tax purposes as a single person. I just find it very hard to believe that I'm losing money instead of what tus are promoting i.e €20 top up.

Have you checked with Revenue? Ring them, with your and your partners PPS numbers and they'll advise you. I think you will have to pay PRSI, but am not sure about PAYE.

when I sign on again after finishing Job bridge it was about 4 to 5 months later I got put on TUS.

but remember people are picket at "random" for these schemes. It would make more sense if they picked people who are long term on the dole and who have yet to take a course, TUS, Job-bridge etc.

I meant straight away. Like you can go from Tus directly to CE. And I also heard that it would be 2 yrs after Tus completion before you are eligible for gateway selection.

Garda vetting is required for the majority of Tús placements, but not all.

If you are on a JobBridge or a TUS placement you are still seen to have been unemployed during that time, even if they do take you off the live register.
