Today I did some detailing...

We have the "Today I Did Something To My Car" thread out in the main forum, and a lot of the posts on it pertain to detailing.
I thought it would be a good idea to give our various detailing activities a thread in their proper home.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Today ( ahem, last night really!), I snow foamed the car
Wasn't able to follow through and wash it properly as my back went, but couldn't believe how well it looked this morning!
In fairness I have a fair bit of LSP on it, but there was ten days worth of road film and tree sap on it.

Well impressed.

Well this was under a tree for about 4weeks, its all over the windows and paint, If im going to be machine polishing it I will have to clay it anyway so thats good.

Ive Jetseal too, will I just use that or will I use it with the Collinite?

The paint is immaculate otherwise

Use both Jetseal and Collinite. They work well together but remember to let the Jetseal cure for an hour (after buffing) before applying Collinite.

1 coat of each will be enough.

JetSeal109 would look good on white - but as MM says, if you have the Collinite there too, no harm in putting on both!

Thanks lads. I presume French paint is about a medium between jap and BMW paint?

Never presume - always do a test section....work up from a relatively low cut to whatever gives you the results you require....but in theory, yes!

Got 90% of the sap off, the clear sap was fine but there was orange bits that were a pain and some stains are left over on the paint. You cant feel them wit a finger nail, ever tar cleanse couldnt get them off so Im hoping the DA will

By any chance is the remaining orange staining, iron contamination?

I very much doubt it, it looks like the sap that weeps out of trees, a goldy colour, ive all of it off but now its just a light orange stain spot that you cant feel with the finger. Ill try Iron Clean tomorrow for the laugh sure!

Also, white paint is a balls to DA, very hard to see where you have just passed!

Washed (not by me..apartment living prevents this), tried out SRP & EGP (i'm new to this detailing lark!) and dressed the tyres with autoglym stuff too.

Are those 3 pen paint touch up kits in halfords any use? I want to touch up the small marks on the rear left bumper and wheel arch.

Some people say they are OK, others complain that the colour match is nowhere near what it should be.
If you are going to brave painting in little defects, I feel far more comfortable getting the exact colour code for the paint, mixed up in the local motor factors....in my one, if I order it in the morning, they'd have it in by the afternoon.
Vinny Byrne's in Santry, if you are local, are supposed to be very accurate.
Always test in an area that cant be seen, around the boot shuts for example, allow it to dry and see how closely matched it is.

Cheers Curran, that's good to know, Santry isn't too far out of my way so i'll keep that in mind. Not sure how brave I am about tackling something like that anyway!

Not today but Yesterday.

Sons car snow foamed and washed.
Dried and a light misting of Orchard Autocare Perfection.

** EDIT **
Wheels were also removed and cleaned fully and treated to two coats of Wolfs Chemicals Rim Shield.
Time will tell on that
While the wheels were off the calipers got a scrubbing with a wire brush and a coat of gold paint.

That Orchard Autocare Perfection seems to be Some stuff.
I will let a pic speak for itself.
