From my own perspective having grown up in a rural area and then living in a City the last few years.

Pro: People are friendly and sociable
Pro: Good place to grow up as a kid - Plenty of space to play about in, reasonably safe
Pro: Can make a load of noise and no one will notice. Be that shouting as a kid, or even now if I go back to the folks and am playing guitar or singing, or whatever.

Con: Boring as hell when you're older.
Con: Everything is further away. Can't just stroll to a Spar or take a wander to a busy restaurant or pub.

Cons: Not having all the amenities of living in a built up area.

Hmmm....would it be safe to presume you're originally from dublin?

Usually this is the attitude that some dubs have when they move out and don't embrace the pros of country living. And wonder why the locals don't like them.

You are correct in your assumption, I moved there... made a few lovely friends, married a local - had to move back to dublin for a couple of years and now trying to come up with a reason to move back down.

all that hard work down the country will mean i will die of exhaustion before i am 50

life in dublin is so much easier

Pro: Cheaper
Pro: You know everybody and there is more a community rather than being the family in the house at the back of the housing estate of the lad in apartment no. 10
Pro: No light pollution you can actually see the stars at night
Pro: Bigger gardens and houses
Pro: You can play walk and cycle safely on the road with out getting knocked down unlike in the city.

Con: Sometimes can be boring as you get older
Con: Things are further away you can't just walk to the shop

This is just for me personally there are loads more but they'd take ages to type up

Looking for a reason to move back down to the country? You may want to work on reversing the long list cons and short 'list' of pros to the other way around.

Otherwise you'll always hate it. It's not for all, but great for some.
