Do you know anyone whos been to prison and has been reformed?

I was watching orange is the new black the other night and it made me think...

I know of quiet a few people who've been in prison, they have all either ended up back there or are on the way back in.

I can't think of 1 example of someone who's been imprisoned who now leads a normal life eg a job, law abiding friends, a happy existence of any type.

It must be so hard to do in fairness, unless of course your a genius at something, or can start your own business, who would employ you with a record?

Has anyone any examples of someone who has turned their life around, or is your chance of a normal life gone for ever with a criminal record?

I can think of a few people I know who went to prison and didn't get involved in crime again but can't say they turned their life around i.e long term unemployed and are going to live off the state for the rest of their lives.

The only people I know who have went to prison are some of the taxi drivers I chat to, so no. :pac:

A friend of mine from school went through an extended rebellious stage and went to young offenders twice and spent a fortnight in the joy. 15 years later he is settled married 2 kids and a job. So yeah i think they can, not all but some

A lot depends on what you're put in prison for. Some crimes you have less chance of re-offending.

One lad who works for us - he did 6 years before the age of 23. Now works full time, has a car, rents a house, him and gf are trying for a kid, keeps his nose clean and head down. People change. Or at least they try. If they get a chance.

The current system is a mess though, everything is sacked against someone upon release.

Yep, know a few. Sending them to prison was counter-productive because (a) their 'crimes' were crimes of principle or fighting against the system, and the system can't rehabilitate people who don't believe in it; and (b) having gone through the system once, they realised that being "in prison" is nowhere near as bad as it's portrayed, so for each of them now it has zero deterrent effect.

When you come from the school of hard knocks then I suppose graduating with distinction from the university of life is easy.

If you follow the charter and posting guidelines then you should avoid prison in the first place.

I've seen a few get released and their behaviour has improved no end.
