Mine gave me more than that. It was the first time in my life that I realised if I knuckle down, I can achieve a lot. I think it develops planning and organisational skills too, it's a huge undertaking and you need to sit down and work out how to navigate it.

People run it down too much, IMO.

I got 165 which is bad.I was a complete waster in secondary school and I was completely immature. it has left an indelible mark on my consciousness, I don't wished to be judged or defined on an exam that I done over the course of two weeks, If I am then it would suggest I am below average Intelligence which always embarrasses me.I don't blame any institution for my own Ineptitude. So now it has giving me the impetus to achieve in life, I think back to the horrific moment of shame and embarrassment when I got my results and now I am a lot self-critical which is pretty good.

I constantly read books and I'm now involved in many volunteering groups and I do Martial arts because I'm so obsessed with doing well and achieving. I am grateful that I made a right choice after secondary school and Didn't end up like a waster or be conditioned by the people I hung around with.I am freely independent thinking human being who strives to maximize happiness in my life and making a positive Impact on the lives of others.

so basically what I'm saying the leaving cert had a big impact of my life after secondary.

Such a vague comment to say the Leaving Cert is pointless, for some its the entry point into a course and area of study they have wanted to pursue, for others, it may not mean that much and they will find success in other trades. It depends entirely on the individual. For me, it was very worthwhile, I studied, thankfully got what I wanted and I am getting my degree results in secondary school teaching next week. So it worked for me.

Oh no I studied a lot, but I was lucky because my subjects matched my strengths. Once I'd learned the facts, I was golden because the rest was about writing skills, coherency etc.

The system suited me. I studied but I never ran myself into the ground either. And anyway, it's not really a good test of intelligence - which I found out the hard way when I got to college

Its completely possible Im afraid. I know some who did incredibly well while being a teachers nightmare. I distinctly remember one in particular telling him how crap hed do. On the day, He went out of his way to find her and rub his results in her face before insulting her up to the whites of her eyes and leaving.

The leaving cert is not a good yardstick nor will it limit anyone from doing what they really want, money will do that!

No idea tbh, I did foundation maths then upped my leaving cert points considerably by doing a PLC and getting a lot of distinctions

, then had enough points for quite a few courses in DIT

I really must look that up actually, what Id have now pointwise, just curiousity!

I did my leaving cert through Irish a couple of years ago. I got 380 which was the second highest in my school.

I can remember answering a question on Hitler in my final exam in history. I was trying to explain the Blitzkrieg tactics he used to subdue Poland with. It was difficult considering none of our books were in Irish.
