How much do you haggle?

When buying a car I think we've all haggled. When buying anything over €500 for sure.

But something that's priced €50? Would you try?

I think when buying more than one thing in a shop, say two shirts, we'd look for a discount too. But in a charity shop? Surely no one ever has?

Not at all. I find it excruciatingly embarrassing and prefer to see a price tag and pay that much if I think it's fair. If not, I move on. Chatting someone up is a straightforward breeze in comparison.

Depends. If its a private seller you may as well haggle over something worth 20 quid. But when dealing with businesses, I'd only ever bother on large electronic items. There no real culture of it here. Was at autojumble recently and when I offered the guy 5 quid less than what had on the sticker, he looked at me like I was speaking Japanese.

All the time. But only when the person in the store has the ability to offer a discount. I cringe when I see some stingy **** haggling with a retail assistant, who cant give a discount. She isnt paid €8,65 to take some pricks abuse for a few euros

I love a haggle, me. Either as the haggler or the hagglee. I think it's quite a shame there's not more of a haggling culture in Ireland.

But know when and where to haggle. If you're in a big chain store or something don't make some poor kids job harder by trying to get them to drop money off something. Most of the time they couldn't even if they wanted to. Don't be that person.

I'll politely ask for discount, mostly on electricals and furniture etc but if i feel something is overpriced I'll ask for a small reduction. People ask me for discount every day in the shop i work in, so it feels sort of natural to haggle a bit when I'm shopping!

Haggling in charity shops is expected. If you don't haggle the old ladies scoff scorn and point as your leaving.

I never used to, but my husband shamelessly haggles. He will always ask for a discount, and is successful a lot of the time. I'm not as brazen as he is, but if I'm buying in bulk I always do.

People tend not to ask in chain stores, as they presume the person on the till has no authority to give a discount, but just this week I asked for a discount in Tiger as I was buying 20 of the same small item, and the young guy straight away gave me 10% off.

It's worth asking!

Never, I'd be **** at it. My mother basically haggles for everything, and is amazing at it. Also no hospital waiting lists for her etc.

I have my own business so I have to haggle endlessly because customers insist on doing it!

For clothes I like to go to sole traders rather than big department stores. I tend to wait until I need to buy a few items and always ask will they give me money off if I buy a few things.

I won't haggle per se, just ask politely for some money off. They give me a few quid off all the time.

Win win. They're happy with the business, I'm happy to get a few quid back.

Calls and beats them down steadily with her words. It may take 2 or 3 calls if they are strong. It's unreal to watch people haggle or get their way. Recently my brother had an appointment in hospital for next year...he saw the head of the department personally in a few days...I couldn't do something like that.

Haggling in a charity shop is so wrong, but I've witnessed it so many times considering i spend so little time in charity shops. I guess people go in with the mindset that charity begins at home!
