When is the best time to run from a wedding?

Just reading about Rory McIlroy here:
http://www.independent.ie/woman/celeb-news/its-over-rory-mcilroy-ends-engagement-to-caroline-wozniacki-30292782.html and it has made me wonder, when is the best time to get out of it if you aren't happy?

he is being criticized because the invitations went out 3 days ago, but is it better to run now?

or on the morning of the wedding itself?

or have a quiet divorce afterwards?

what would you do?

i know with me i never wanted to run from marrying my husband so luckily have never been in this situation, but if i had to, i'd probably run as soon as i realised i wanted out.

The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we've had.

Man the fúck up Rory for fecks sake. You had another 6 months to get used to all that it entails instead you dump a fine looking woman. If you're happy to hand jockey yourself for the rest of the year instead of the real thing well then so be it.

There might be a teeny bit more to it than how she looks.

Now is better than later, obviously. That poor girl must be devastated though, him too. I can't imagine it was easy either way.

I did it when we were engaged for three years. Together for seven years altogether. No definite wedding plans though.

It was hard at the time, but definitely the right thing to do. The longer I left it, the worse it would have gotten, for both of us and for everyone else involved.

I just feel sorry for that couple having to go through all of it with the media involved. Can't be easy for either of them.

He seems like a little lost boy but we all make mistakes and at 25 he's entitled to make lots more.

His first girlfriend grew up near him and could empathise with his roots and way of life and then Caroline could empathise with the life and pressures of professional sport. Perhaps he needs someone who isn't on his wave length at all.

I think what he did was indeed "manning up". He realised it wasn't what he wanted and he got out. It's pretty hard thing to do I would imagine.

I think the best time to run from a wedding is as soon as you realise it's not what you want. Anything can trigger it, maybe reality kicked in when the invites went out?

Isn't it better to call it quits now, rather than getting divorced down the line.

I know a couple that had been going out with years and on their big day he got the jitters and never showed :eek: Believe it or not they eventually got married years after. He left her at the alter I don't know of any woman that would be that forgiving.

Another neighbour have invitations sent out and a few presents received when they called off their wedding.

Heard an awful story about a lady who left her husband the day after the wedding. The reason? They met someone they liked more when on a weekend away for their hen party. Why not mention this before the wedding? They wanted to have the big party anyway.

My source was reliable, but I really really hope that there is more to the story than that, as it seems kinda despicable.

(Also, this is too late on the scale of things.)
