Can you actually be racist towards white people?

For a long time I thought racism towards caucasians wasnt a genuine issue, like it didnt REALLY exist.Sure sometimes people of other races may use some supposedly offensive terms like 'cracker' or honky or whatever. But does it honestly affect us? No. Because why would some hurtful words effect a race that already has all the advantages. No one stops a white person for looking suspicious, whites arent a minority that make up the majority of the american prison popuation etc. Because white has been made well known as a “safe skin color”. I used to believe that if you believed in racism against white people then you just wanted a reason to feel bad because your life is already so ****ing good already based on the fact that you were lucky to be blessed with white skin in a racist world.
But recently Ive heard about acts of clear hatred towards white people which were not categorised as so, simplybecause the victims were white. And we all know white people are never victims...

A young white couple brutally murdered by 5 black attackers. Well to me personally i dont see how this could not be a hate crime. If 5 white men had killed a black couple theres no question that it would be considered a hate crime.

* and just to add. HOw many of you have even heard of the above case? I hadnt til a few days ago and it happpened in 2007 but for instance I would say almost everyone has heard of the travyonmartin case and knows all about it too.

I was a student at the time of the same college they were students of when they were murdered. It's still with me to this today as the horrors of what actually happened to them (seriously, don't google it) were released in the media during the trial in great detail. There has been uproar for years that their case didn't garner more national attention, and of course there are plenty of anti-white campaigners/websites saying they were asking for it, she loved every minute of what happened to her, how could the perpetrators be blamed when the white man kept them down for years etc.

The case is well known in the South but less so throughout the rest of the US.

In fairness I've seen black writers refer to actresses or singers and such as "women of colour".

Women of colour are black only? They've obviously never seen a traveler confirmation or wedding.

I have read it all and I completely disagree. I honestly think the chances of five black attackers randomy picking up and brutally murdering a white couple for no reason whatsover are slim to none. Obviously it was racially motivated, it is very hard for police to get solid evidence in a case to prove a crime was racially motivated. But sometimes its obvious when one is, even if the police dont want to admit it.

the travyon martin case is widely thought of as a hate crime and that wasnt even perpetrated by a white man (he was mixed race so i heard) and only involved one black victim. How anyone can call that a hate crime and the channon christian case not a hate crime has some kind of anti-white agenda.

Whenever I had an disagreement or argument with a black person they were ALWAYS the first to bring up skin colour or race even though it was not even connected to the discussion. It boils my pure Aryan white blood so it does !! :pac:

It think the problem isn't that this was necessarily a hate crime so much as we too readily ascribe the terms hate crime and racism to random acts of violence against some minorities. There's a couple of boards posters who are particularly quick with this one.

Basically some people are scum who will hurt others not because if the colour of the victims skin but because they (the perp) are scum.

I don't really like the whole 'privilege' thing but it has its roots in common sense. If you feel victimised for being a white person in Ireland, that's probably about 0.00001% of what a non-white person experiences over the course of growing up in Ireland. I don't know anyone black or Asian who hasn't experienced some sort of racism on a regular basis, whether it's overt (people used to tell the Indian girl in my class in primary that her skin was covered in poo) or less obvious (being followed around by a security guard in a shop). I think a lot of white people seem clueless about this. I was volunteering in Africa and one of the group, who would be one of those 'racism goes both ways' types, was complaining about how self-conscious she felt as a white person in the village because she stuck out like a sore thumb. I said 'yeah, this is 4 weeks and you're whining. Imagine how a black person living in Ballyarseendofnowhere feels every day of his life?'

22 afro American , 3 white. our clientele were mostly rich white families with spoilt kids.
Managers were 1 female afro American called Rose and second was a sleazy fake tanned dude from Florida
A customer used to come in twice a week, we ended up chatting briefly. He ended up asking me on date etc. he was afro American .
we went on few dates and started going out - one day Rose called me in and told me ' black men are for black women- what are you doing' to this day I will never forget the shock.... the hostility she held against me until we broke up was shocking.
