Alright folks,

There is an article in the Independent (UK) discussing how a company have taken to using very recent Satellite imagery to crowdsource for locating the remains of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370. It's one of things that if you have a few hours to spare while at the computer it could be a really useful thing to get involved in (beats facebook, videos of cats and posts in reddit).

In theory, it seems like a great idea.
But...are the images up to date? How do we know that the tiles are in a useful search area?
I certainly don't have expertise in recognising plane wreckage or oil slicks. This is a specialised skill and one probably best left to experts.
The alternative is tens of thousands of false leads.

If this is indeed debris from the missing plane, then it seems that remote sensing has proven to be the most effective search tool.
