This is a forum for people to ask for advice, and in some cases may be experiencing difficult personal circumstances. For some people JobBridge may be a good, and welcome choice for them. Thee is to be no more mention of JobBridge being a scam, fraud, etc (or any discussion among same lines). There may be a home for that kind of discussion on Boards.ie but it definitely isn't here.

Hi Had a letter from Social Protection inviting me to participate on a TUS Programme. I have done an internet search and there seems to be very little "chatter" about it from people who have been on it, does anyone have any experience of it? I know how much it pays and a broad idea of what type of jobs etc, but would like some first hand experience from people in the know. Sounds a bit like a CE Scheme.

Ring revenue. They will tell you how your allowances are apportioned. Seen it many times. Other half working, taking all the credits. Thats good advice. Have all relevant details to hand, PPS number for you and partner. They are usually very helpful.

Well I got a payslip and rang revenue today, it turns out that they reduced my tax credits to €28 because they thought I was getting a DSP payment on top of my TUS payment. The girl was very helpful and had it sorted within minutes. Should receive tax back next week so happy out now.

Result;) And the good thing is that it might show in your next payslip. Revenue are slowly getting to grips with Tús. Unfortunately, as schemes are rolled out, Department staff are last to be educated. I deal with them on the phone regularly and I have to say that Rev staff are very helpful.

Result on a small scale, it still costs me a lot more than the €20 to participate in this scheme. At least where I'm placed I'm actually helping a charitable organization who really deserve assistance. I feel sorry for those placed in demeaning jobs like picking up papers around GAA grounds.

had a TUS interview in oct last and was asked if i wanted to attend an interview for an admin job in a local community centre the following week.

as i've only been on jsa a year and out of employment a long time, i didn't feel very confident about it but was willing to do my best.

was offered the position a few days later and am still there and finding it a great experience.

my TUS supervisor is lovely and very helpful. yeah found the emergency tax and waiting for the actual payment to settle and be the correct one a bit of a pain, but it finally got sorted week before christmas.

have to admit my experience is, so far, very positive. the position, while not exciting or super-busy, is nice and i've actually learned some new things which is a great boost.

the people are friendly and welcoming and have never made me feel like an idiot when i've asked yet another question!

so onwards and upwards.

From what iv seen trew day in day out from people fearing the letter to people on this scam"s (wopps) i mean makeing my C.V. look better programs saying its the best thing since sliced bread jebus get a clue these things are set up to mess with the rate of employement thats IT. no other reason not to help you, not to get you out of the welfare, build your self esteem up, No if you dont think im right then think about it again were ever your working trew tus/ce heres a few questions???
Who works there ? are they all on tus/ce scams? if yes what makes you think that next year you will be not let go ???

Is there just one or 2 managers that get full wage and you get 208 euro? is that Fair????

Do you think you will get a full time job out of this and FULL paying job ????? ...........(in the place were you are put)

Im not trying to mess with people heads that are on this ****e for i am on this i know how you"s feel its **** getting ****ed into a little cornor knowing if you dont do this **** your money will be cut ,bad enough you have esb rent ect calling you looking for money you dont have **** this **** im sick of it and i know some you are 2.

Could you request a new supervisor if you weren't happy with the conduct of the supervisor you have?. I don't want to rock the boat or draw attention to myself but my supervisor has been overstepping boundaries for a few months now.

I don't want to into too much detail, but I'm not comfortable being supervised by this person, I have raised my concerns to my line manager in my placement who agrees that the supervisors behaviour is unprofessional(the manager has witnessed this too) and that we will monitor it. I was delighted to get this placement, but this issue is making me very uneasy.

Are you in a Union? If so, try and get their help. I don't know if TUS schemes have the same setup as FAS CE schemes, if so, it might be best having a word with one of the sponsors.

Did you speak with the Supervisor regarding your concerns ? Reading between the lines, I think I know what you are referring to. If that makes you uncomfortable, then you could head to the Senior Team Leader ( if the Partnership has more that 120 placements allocated, then a Coordinating Supervisor / Teamleader can be appointed ). I would direct my concerns directly to him/her if that was an option ?

Yes I have asked my supervisor to stop calling me out of hours and on my private home number which the supervisor picked off my CV, theres also other unnerving,pushy and frankly weird behaviour going on that I am not comfortable with, but I'm glad I confided my concerns to my manager, and he intends to monitor it and consult with his superior if it keeps up.

I'm a very shy person and am no good at standing up for myself (I need to work on this)I have met some of the other supervisors in the organisation and thought they were really sound, I really like my placement but this issue is causing me a lot of worry, I think I'm going to have to take it to TUS themselves even though I'd hate for them to think I'm a troublemaker.

You appear to have done all you can to dissuade the person in question. If it continues, it's harassment, plain and simple. Threaten them with this or go to one of their colleagues, whom you referred to above as "really sound", and report them.

Just wondering as I might be in the same boat as yourself here but when you say a family payment do you mean you're getting extra for a child or children on top of your dole? I got one of these letters nearly a month or so ago now and have heard nothing since.

Just answer the letter saying you are willing to participate. There aren't enough places for all the unemployed, so you may not be called. However, if you ignore the letter or say that you're not willing to participate, then unless you have a very good reason, you risk your payment being cut. Contrary to what you read here and elsewhere, not all TUS schemes are a waste. You might be lucky and enjoy the experience, make new friends and contacts.

If you refuse, then your payment might be affected. I'm sure if you tick the NOT INTERESTED box, then you will be required to give acceptable reasons to support your decision.

A family payment. A typical example would be 1 claim for a household consisting of:

Main claimant - €188
Qualifying Adult ( your spouse ) - €124.80
Each child - €29.80

So for a 1 child family, you are looking at a JA benefit of €342.60 per week ( Assuming your spouse is not working )

A single or family claim makes no difference in replying to the letter sent by the DSP. Irrespective of you situation, you still tick YES or NO.

Taking the above example of a 1 child family, you'd be working for €17.5 per hour. Not to be sneezed at, especially as you keep your secondary benefits of rent allowance, medical card and fuel allowance.

No, that is not correct atall. Forced labour. The hourly rate you talk about is incorrect. No working rights, no long term employment, being made to do demeaning inappropriate tasks. The whole scheme is fundamentally wrong.
Making out it is well paid etc is just complete nonsense.

Could you give examples, please? Not heresay, but actual first hand ones. I'll start with 2 I know personally. 1 - admin in Carers organisation. 2 - maintaining grounds at a church. Nothing demeaning or inappropriate in those.

Well I am glad you are happy in the role you have with tus. I do t have to give any examples, forced labour using threats doesn't need first hand accounts, it is fundamentally wrong. Such negativity! They are not perfect. Neither is allowing people to make Welfare a lifestyle choice!There is NOTHING wrong with picking up litter. People have been known to do it voluntarily - eg Tidy Towns committee members.

I wonder is the aim of the scheme to get people back into the habit of working? There are so many long term unemployed out there, some of whom - if forums are to be believed - have never worked a day in their lives! Is it so wrong to give something back? To show the value of doing something - anything - for their dole?
