People going to the cinema on there own?

Who goes to the cinema on there own? Own up! I went to the cinema last night to see The Wolf Of Wall Street which was fantastic by the way. I went my with the missus but i seen 2 or 3 men there on their own, nobody sitting beside them, a complete empty seat. Perhaps all 3 of them got stood up and they taught sure look im here now il wander in, but i found it very odd that someone would go to a movie by themselves. I spent a lot of the movie feeling sorry for them, the only company they had was a popcorn bucket & a large coke. One had just a packet of Minstrels

what they could do is seat all the people who are on there own together, make an announcement before the movie starts that if your own can sit in row 6 & we'll find you some company or have a cornered of section for them

Do you find it odd or am i odd to find it odd?

For all the talk of people becoming more detached because of Facebook etc I find it more worrying that some people are so insecure that they find the thought of doing something alone odd or uncomfortable.

I actually quite like going to the cinema by myself. Often times my husband doesn't want to see the same type of movies that I do and so rather than drag him along to something he really doesn't want to see I go by myself quite happily.
I get very annoyed when people eat their food with lots of chomping and smacking of lips and rustling papers, etc and so find that going around 12pm on a Sunday afternoon is great. Often times there are only about 5 other people in the cinema and so none of us need to sit too close to each other and be affected by such things.
Its a very relaxed and enjoyable way to see and movie.

If I went to the cinema and they did this, there would be trouble!!!!Nearly worse than being quarantined!! All the loners this way please because there's obviously something wrong with the lot of ya!

I love going to the cinema on my own, I love shopping by myself (I actually detest going shopping with other people). I love my own company. There are times when I just want to be by myself and not talk to anyone. Don't feel sorry for me seriously!!!

A lot of people I know like going to the cinema by themselves, it's very common. I think you need at least an hour of alone time everyday. Not everyone wants someone yapping in their ear 24/7.

I've done it a few times, it's great. I actually think it's really relaxing.

So much of life is busy and filled with convention of pleasing other people and minding what you say to them lest they be offended, etc etc that there are times when its nice to just be.... just be there by yourself and enjoy your own company.
That might be going to the movies, heading off to the beach for a long walk and if (pha ha) its a nice day sitting down on the sand and looking at the water, staying at home and having a brilliant book to read with the perfect cup of tea.

Then again I'm clearly an odd odd woman. There are many times I go out in public without wearing make up much to the consternation of some other women

I do this as well. I don't even dry my hair going to work. We're not odd, we're limited edition!

I'm happy enough to go on my own.
Often it depends on the movie, I prefer going to 'event' movies like big summer blockbusters with friends, but when it comes to indie arthouse cinema, most of my mates aren't interested in those, so I'll go on my own.
I used to go on my own quite a lot, back when I had a Cineworld annual pass, I could just pop in on a Sunday afternoon and catch a movie (I live in town), but since I let that expire I don't tend to go the the movies on my own as often.

This isnt about being not able to do things on your own..I do a lot of things on mu own. Im on the road a lot so i drive on my own, i have lunch on my own and sometimes i sleep on my own. In my view going to the pub,cinema or even a nightclub on your own is odd, they are things you do with friends

Maybe that's because you already spend a lot of time on your own. Plenty of us don't have that luxury.

I don't think I did unfortunately. All I can remember of the whole thing is being annoyed with myself for even going, I'd already had one terrible date with him! I think I only agreed to the cinema because I thought at least I won't have to listen to him in there...I was wrong:D

I often see people on their own in the pub having a quiet drink and reading the paper. If my brother is over at my mum's with his wife and children on a Saturday afternoon and there's a match on Sky he'll often stroll down to the local for an hour before dinner to have a pint and catch the end of it. None of us think it's the least bit odd.
I admit I don't know anyone who goes to nightclubs on their own.

I really enjoy going to the cinema on my own. I am married with three kids, my own company and its not often I get out myself.

I don't mind going with friends, but sometimes , I don't have much notice or time to give if I get some free time and I just go myself.

I actually love going top movies at off peak times when I have the entire screen to myself.

I can't think of anything more insecure and needy than needing company to see a film. You're not going to socialise with someone while watching a film and if you do you're a dick.

Thinking of checking out the latest Coen on my own and if I'm the only loner in the cinema then I'll give no fuks whatsoever.

I think people just simply enjoying their own company, possibly along with doing something fun, is getting rarer as time goes by. I don't know rightly why this should be - maybe it's an age thing, maybe it has to do with the plethora of social media and communications we have nowadays. I'm quite content to sup ale and read t'paper for an hour or two on my own down Woolpack, or occasionally visit the cinema. Being a biker as well encourages solitary enjoyment - I can't remember the last time I had a crisis of loneliness howling down the back-road to Kinsale on an OW-01.

It is also possible that being a computer programmer by trade has something to do with it.

Being American, our culture is different. If i seen a guy or a girl at the bar by themselves drinking its usually associated with there having a bad day, perhaps they lost their job or the wife or husband has left them. I do see men in Ireland sitting at bars reading papers. Appears to be the norm here in Ireland.

Penny, I'm the same a lady who rarely wears makeup, hit the cinema on my own, thoroughly enjoy my own company. Im sorry to say but you are not odd!
