Brain teaser I cannot work out. Help?

Someone sent me an email of puzzles today, and I've finished them all and got most of them right, but there is one I cannot for the life of me figure out.

It's like this:

04___14______11___34

35___26______73___??

I've been told the answer is 55, but I still can't even work out what the relationships between the numbers are now that I know! I've been working away at this all day, and I still can't come up with anything. Can anyone explain it so that I can go to sleep in peace? This thing has my head demented.

34+11 = 45 14-4= 10 10+45=55
73 -26= 47 34-26= 8. 47+8 = 55

Difference between 4 and 14 is 10.
Difference between 14 and 11 is 3.
Sum of these is 13.
Add this number to 11 to get 34.

Repeat the exact same process on the second line to give 55.

I can't believe I did this, but looking over the answers I realise I made a typo in the original post. It should be 35, not 34!

So sorry to anyone who tried it before now, but I've been trying with 35 and still can't work it out... It's supposed to be a transformation, like there's a relationship between the top line that when applied to the bottom line would give you 55 for the 4th number.

I can see a relationship between the 2 sets of the top numbers.
4 (×3+2)=14, 11(×3+2)=35

Lost after that.

Closest I could get. Still cheated by changing the sign, but it may help someone else.

As I understand the corrected post, the 4th number on the top line is still 34.

It is only the first number on the bottom line that has changed to 35.

34-26 = 8

73 -26 = 47

I suppose you could get your 55 somehow that way (if it was 34)

I get 58... Compare column 1 to 3 and 2 to 4. Subtract top linr from bottom.

Compare col. 1 to 3.
35-4=31; 73-11=62.

Diff btwn column 3 & column 1 is 2x.

Therefore:

Compare column two to column 4

26-14=12; x-34=24... X =58.

Do the wider gaps between the middle 2 numbers mean anything or is that just your typing?

by 2, then add 3

to get the

Should the last number on the top line be 31?
