Alright everyone, I am looking to get a 2 year Visa to work in Canada for 2014. I am a qualified Electrician with nine years experience and am about to finish a Degree in Electronic Engineering in a months time. I understand that the process in not open for 2014 yet but I would appreciate any help you can give me towards what documents to get like if I should get the Police certificate now would that be alright? As in does it need to be a certain date before the Visa application.
And to get my trade recognised do I have to do the Red Seal program? I am just trying to get everything in order and understand the full procedure for applying for the Visa.
Is it better to go through a site like GoforLess or Usit or is it better to apply directly to the Canadian embassy?
Anyway I appreciate any help that you can give.

Logically you would think that they would accept a Garda cert as long as it is less than three months old from the date you actually apply for the visa.

Don't think there is a clear rule on it. Mine is dated 25th November and if they are released this week im sticking with that, any later I think ill get a new one. If i was a betting man i would say an announcement will go up later this evening or tomorrow, and they will go on sale Thursday or Friday. It would be unusual if they let it go till February, unless they are having internal problems with the system.

I have seen people saying they must be less than three months old when applying but I have seen this nowhere on any official sites, just from word of mouth. Is this true? Is there a validity period of three months on the police certs? Thanks in advance

They don't care that people are anxiously waiting on these because they know they will have no problem selling out of Irish visas at the end of the day it's all about money.

I just hope they don't go on sale this Thursday because I have to work and if they are announced for Thursday it will mean having to take an unpaid sick day which is annoying.

They historically release the visas at 10:00 Ottowa time. Which is 15:00 in our sunny isle!

I'm assuming they will similarly use the same time, to give us "24 to 72 hour notice."

For Canadian visas, embassy stuff doesn't count. The Garda form is generic, therefore not country you intend to visit specific. So you can ignore it.

It would probably be needed for US visas though..

I needed my birth cert for the Garda form. You do not need it for the actual visa application.

Think passport is all you need.

You need a certificate of character, it's a very basic form, a single A4 page. My local station said it will take about "10 working days", but depends on your station....
You need to sign the form, with your passport and birth cert at the station (for photocopying) and provide them with a stamped, address envelope. No cost (other than the stamp)

What does it say on the form once you've received it?
Just confirming you've no convictions ?
