Keeping their options open? It's not all about the points either (though admittedly the way the current LC curriculum is set up, unfortunately the majority of students tend to feel it IS all about the points!), but some students will take on subjects purely out of interest in the subject matter.

Actually you just reminded me of something that frustrates me up to the back teeth-

I'm forever telling students be it at primary, secondary and even third level, to go outside the damn curriculum! They'll bitch and moan and blame everybody else then when they allow themselves to be fed just enough information to pass exams!

The predictive text on my phone. When ever I want to say "of" it types "me". The word "of" is used a lot more often than the word "me" in texts as quite often I may text someone asking them "to get a ____ of _____". It's very inconvenient having to go back and change the word.

If I text someone, it's probably because I can't talk to them - at work/start of lecture etc, so them calling when they get the text is annoying because I usually can't answer them. I think people should take their cue for the method of communication from the instigator. If you text, they can text you back. Imagine if you called and instead of answering they cut you off and sent you a text because they preferred that mode of communication?

Anyway, my extremely trivial annoyance this morning is AA roadwatch referring to the M7 as going North/South, when to my mind it's East/West. They also refer to the Limerick Tunnel as East/West when it's more North/South.

Too cool for school 'hipster' service from some waiting staff in many of the 'trendier' places around town. I'm not expecting to be fawned over but I expect my waiter or waitress to be courteous and to at least pretend to be interested!

Half an hour waiting to be served because I didn't have the right haircut, NHS glasses or Morrisey t-shirt. One barman blanked me three times when I asked for a pint, then I asked another prick and he told me there was no need for shouting!!

If I was actually shouting at him, he would have know about it.
