Oh, sins that are easily cancelled out with a click of the fingers.

eviltimeban wrote: » What other interpretation is there? What is confession for? Confessing sins. Someone mentioned earlier that IRA guys used to confess and the priest couldn't do anything, cos of the rules around confession. That's madness!
That's the problem with that ridiculous, lunatic religion - there's a way out of everything. Anyway. Sorry, I find it hard to take comments like "hey its good for the soul" without reacting harshly. The world is infinitely a worse place because of religion. So much hatred and pain has derived from what was supposed to be a positive thing.
eviltimeban wrote: » And you sound like you need to stop telling people what to do. Oh sorry, you're a Catholic.

Amazingfun wrote: » I didn't tell you to do anything **I wonder if you were baptized, because that makes you a Catholic too, lol.
Legs.Eleven wrote: » Eh, as a TRADITIONAL PERSON you should know there's a bit more to it than that. Faith, for example or belief in the teachings of the RC. Any priest will tell you that.

eviltimeban wrote: » "The way it works"! Ha ha ha!! It doesn't "do" anything! Its just some guy in a frock telling some other fool "oh yeah forget about it, do some 'penance' and we'll call it quits". Gas.
Unfortunately, whatever kind of spin you put on it, it cannot be a positive thing. There is too much pain and suffering associated with it that negates anything positive that might have be there. I for one see nothing positive in believing in a made-up god and spoiling the one life we have in the hopes that the "next life" will be better. And what's wrong with gays, or women? Why can't my unbaptised child get into the local school? Why can't Aids be prevented by the support of the use of condoms? Its the everyday belief and values that are as harmful.
Casual catholics are often harder to argue with as they've never questioned it before or come to any conclusions themselves, they've just gone along with whatever the herd is doing (a friend of mine used to call them "cattle-thicks"). Not suggesting you are casual, you could be a fire-and-brimstone born again type, but either way going down this road can only lead to pain. Oh hey! Perfect!
realies wrote: » Confession is an outdated practice in the RC, like a lot of there teachings it needs to change.
Czarcasm wrote: » It genuinely isn't as simple as that. I mean, at first glance for a non-catholic who say landed from Mars and knew absolutely nothing about the sacrament of confession, yeah, but for a person with the capability to read up about it and understand the meaning of it to some people, I'd expect better tbh.
