If I may be so bold as to start a new thread.

What are peoples plans/strategy for this in Jan?

Is it best to get it done early to try to gain ground and value or wait a while and see if there are any nice new signings about provided your team is on midline shape?

When is generally best for price rises? Do the majority of casual players go on jan 1 and the prices go crazy or is it evenly spread over the month? It's a 10 day GW at the start too, although so is the last week of the month.

Finally, how the hell do we not end up all with the exact same team, or 90% the same at least?

First time playing so interested but I'm sure the discussion would be of interest to all.

I know when I come to using my WC I'll be torn between 2 minds due to the poor season I've been having.

1: Go all out with alternatives to the players with high-ownership in a do or die manner

2: Conform to the template, within reason and grind out tiny rises until I level out and find my place.

I've come to the conclusion that my biggest flaw when it comes to this game is to not go for the "hipster" choice in the hope that it pays off.

Surely a compromise between both is possible?
e.g. arsenal defenders are good, everyone has Mert - go for Kos or Sagna instead for less cost and a wee differential.

Any decision you make, ensure you can justify it. Pros and Cons lists are good for this in my experience. Smart decisions usually pay off.

You'll be grand so. It's not like at this stage of the season you have too many choices. It's mostly prioritising def/mid/fwd I guess with most people seemingly going for 1-2 decent defenders and the rest being budget. Going for a 4-4-2 or something might seem almost radical now.

I think Baines would be a very good differential to have (mostly owned by zombies atm i'd say) and might try find a way to get him in over the next few weeks myself.

Well, sensibly, you need the following:

Suarez (c)

...and at least one from each of the following (most-owned first):

Chelsea attacking coverage: Hazard (35%), Oscar (13%), Torres (2%), Willian (.3%)
Arsenal attacking coverage: Ramsey (35%), Ozil (21%), Giroud (20%) , Cazorla (2.7%), Podolski (2%), Gnabry (.4%)
City attacking coverage: Yaya (44%), Negredo (18%), Aguero (8%), Dzeko (4%), Silva (6%), Navas (4.2%), Fernandinho (2%)
4th-5th choice midfielder: Lallana (26%), Cabaye (15%), Januzaj (12%), Henderon (8%), Sterling (7%), Gerrard (6%), Eriksen (5%), Mirallas (4%)
2nd-3rd choice forward: Lukaku (32%), Remy (14%), Sturridge (12%), Benteke (9%), Welbeck (8%), Adebayor (7%)

2 - 3 premium defenders: Coleman (46%), Mert (29%), Zab (23%), Terry (18%), Baines (14%), Kos (9%), Luiz (5%), Kompany (5%)
2 - 3 cheap rotating defenders: Chester (6%), Ward (5%)...

Goalkeeper: one premium and a sub (Szchesney (12%) + Fabianski / Howard (8%) + Robles / Jussi (6%) + Adrian), or two rotating (Mannone + Marshall)

Plenty of scope to be a bit left-field there, looking at ownership. Cazorla, Navas, Gerrard, Sturridge, Welbeck, Luiz, Kompany, Jussi all seem like very good players at relatively low ownership, if you're looking for a differential.

Just did a "Differentials" team up for the laugh. Here's my current team (The Bandwagoners):

Mannone, Marshall
Zabaleta, Coleman, Sagna, Chester, Ward
Ozil, Yaya, Oscar, Lallana, Januzaj
Suarez, Negredo, Adebayor

Average ownership: 19.5%

Here's a team for similar money of left-field choices (The Differentials:

Jussi, Adrian
Luiz, Vidic, Kompany, Chester, Ward
Cazorla, Navas, Gerrard, Willian, Erikson
Suarez, Sturridge, Welbeck

Average ownership: 8.5% (drops to 5.4% if Suarez is taken out of the equation!)

If you're already behind in your leagues, that kind of team might be worth a gamble. Still have attacking coverage for all the big teams (with apologies to Everton and Newcastle) and a decent prospect of clean sheets.

I don't need anything. And I told you that you don't have to convince anyone of Silva's general better forward returns than Yaya. I had Silva many times these past seasons and he got me plenty of FF points.

I just told you that your figures were biased and you seem to underestimate Yaya's season so far. That's all. For someone like me who got Yaya early enough, not only he was a better choice back then (since Silva got injured early on and when he started to accumulate the games and the points got injured again) but he kept on scoring consistently for the whole 1st part of the season. So making the switch was/is not as much of a no brainer as you say. But Silva's freshness over Yaya may now play in Silva's advantage.

I certainly wouldn't call myself a hipster, closer to 40 than 30 these days, however I feel your conundrum.

I really don't want an identikit team. The best punt I see for a differential is to go for the trinity of RVP, Suarez and Aguero and really make that team value work for me. I believe I can do it without to much compromise elsewhere. I know I said I'd shut up about it but I'm thinking about it all week, keep getting an idea on a possible combination of players and having to immediately log on to FPL and try it out! And I don't intend wild carding till next week!!

I got him in earlier in the season when he was showing signs of form, but he didn't deliver. He's a beaten docket, I fear. Too much value in the striker market to waste 8.2 on him, even if you want a differential.

Yeah wouldn't fancy him long term, but I am thinking of putting him in for 1 week on WC for their home game with West Ham. Then switch back to Aguero the next day.

Interestingly, Christian Benteke's goal was his fifth goal in 16 matches, the same number of goals he scored in his first 16 matches last season. He then scored 14 goals in his last 18 matches to finish the season with 19. So maybe he's just coming into season now?
