One Man Picket outside Murphy and Gunn

JA1

Just passed by a guy with a placard outside Murphy and Gunn in Rathgar saying he bought a car for Eur 30,000 off them which lasted 9 months. "After Sales Service a disgrace".

I was thinking of buying a car off them. Any opinions on their service?

Ask in Motors. You could also ask the guy with the sign what his actual experience was. I've never bought a car from them though I've experience of their parts department and they're no better or worse than any other I've dealt with

There's a guy with a placard who says they're no good. On the other hand, they've been in business for years. You don't stay in business for years if you're cr4p.

So the one man's opinion should be discarded? Everybody gets a bad one once in a while

this popped up on my fb stream yesterday

guy bought car and got 12 month engine/gearbox warranty

9 months in gearbox packs up and cost is 9K i think to replace, dealer has no interest, guy goes to manufacturer and they agree to pay 6K but garage will not do goodwill (or really honour warranty) on other 3K as they say that the vehicle is an ex-taxi so should only have a 3 month warranty

No, but the guy who stands outside with a placard is clearly not the most stable of individuals.

If the car "lasted" nine months, there are plenty of avenues he can use to get his money back. Standing outside with a placard is not one of them.

I doubt the above is true. Surely if be got a 12 month warranty it would just be a case of going to a solicitor and forcing the garage to honour their contract. I'm willing to bet that the guy "knows his rights" and thinks hes entitled to 12 months warranty.

If he got a 12 month warranty it should say so on his contract. Surely he should be able to take it to court and get his costs taken care of?

Perhaps, but if you were going to buy a car there and you saw this and heard how they would not honour a warranty, would it not make you think twice? You could go legal, but how long will that take?

If even one prospective customer turns and walks away, it could prompt the garage to honour any warranty due. Of course, thats providing what this is about.

What's to say he isn't mid process on these avenues but fancies applying a little pressure to the dealership? Labeling him as unstable is highly presumptuous. Dare I say if I'd have dropped €30,000 on a car that had issues and nobody was living up to their warranty I might do a little protesting myself and I'd consider myself quite stable.

We don't exactly know he's standing up for his rights. He could feel he should get a 12 month warranty because some part broke sooner than expected.

Is the issue that he used the car as a taxi thus invalidating the warranty, or the garage sold a car which had previously been used as a taxi and mistakingly gave a 12 month warranty?

I would have thought that if he had the warranty in writing, he'd have a solid case against the dealer. Conversely, if the manufacturer is willing to provide the parts without charge, the dealer must be fairly confident in their own position to refuse to provide the labour for free

PLEASE SHARE....My Dad Bought a 2010 Audi A6 from MURPHY AND GUNN for €30,000. 9 months later the GEARBOX WENT. This well known garage gave 12 month warranty with car when it was purchased AS A TAXI.... When car was returned due to gearbox problems MURPHY AND GUNN refused to fix the car as they said warranty was only 3months because it was a taxi. CONTRACT THAT WAS SIGNED STATED 12 MONTH WARRANTY, THIS GARAGE DOES NOT STAND BY WARRANTY....The cost of gearbox to be fixed was €7,000. Murphy and Gunn refused to pay, which led Dave to go to Audi Ireland. After 10 weeks Audi Ireland as a good will gesture decided they would pay €4,000. Murphy and Gunn refused to co-operate with the remaining €3,000 which left Dave with no option but to pay €3,000 to get his car back. DISGRACEFUL considering he had a 12 month warranty. This man was unfairly treated for 10 weeks. PLEASE SHARE
