Incompetent Irish political gombeenism part 9653.

So first a buddy of the chairman Pat Cox is made ceo with no public competition. Then the artistic director resigns due to being hamstrung. Shane Ross in his role as public accounts Committee member has raised concerns and minister for state Joe Costello has labelled the project a "shambles".

So what could have been a good news story and a boost for the region has been sullied by incompetence, mismanagement and shleeveenism.

Business as usual.

Isn't it just unreal the way Pat Cox installed his secretary as CEO of the culture festival without the need for the job to be advertised to the public. Then she goes and admits that she has zero experience whatsoever of working within the arts or with artists yet she is head of an organisation that is supposed to run over 120 artistic events throughout the year. Then she goes and tells two teenage rappers to change the lyrics in their song because she didnt like them. You really could not make this stuff up.
I feel sorry for the good people of Limerick and also for all the artists who just want to put on a good show and show off their city to the rest of us. But instead they found a gombeen politician in Pat Cox lumber them with a CEO who has already admitted that she is way out of her depth when it comes to running large scale artistic events. They've been let down badly yet again.

I've said it many times, but Limerick has so much potential going to waste. It's home to a lot of good artists who really care about what they do, and the place is a fucking dump. Infested with scumbags right in the middle of the centre, filthy, most of the buildings are either devoid of life or literally hollow, just a shell. The garda are exasperated, the politicians don't give a shit. The first things you see when you roll into the station is a sprawl of fire charred, boarded up flats. Around the corner is the first of many Hell hole estates. Anywhere remotely nice soon becomes the new place to store the ever expanding group of assholes who make the county such a pain to live in.

There's so much can be done in Limerick, it's a crying shame.
