The Last Bandit

Picked up a good bit of stuff recently, only starting to get stuck into it now.

Tomb Raider, Last of Us (feck'n clickers), Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, GoW Ascension, Deux Ex, Crysis 2, Rocksmith, Dishonered, Assassins Creed 3 - all for PS3. Can't beat a few dirt cheap FPS's to help me get over those RPG's.

On a more retro note, got an Acorn Electron, Atari 800 XL, HXC floppy emulator, SIO2SD for the Atari and found my old Amstrad CPC464 at home

Also redesigned the supergun again

Don't get your hopes up with the single player campaign in Battlefield 3, it looks gorgeous but you have it finished in a couple of hours.

Damn, just as well it was cheap so. Only ever play the single player on these so never get the full value out of them.

Oh, if it's cheapy cheap you'll be fine, the mission in the jet was a real disappointment though, because it feels far more like a cut scene with added QTE. And the biggest hurt is that you know the game contains the code for you to fly and kick ass in that bad boy.
What a pain.
I had it for the 260 and installed the HD disk and it looked amazing, I just played a spot of next gen CoD the other day and I don't remember much of a difference between BF3 and it.

I just finished the BF4 campaign the other day and it was as bland and uninspired as it could be. Doesn't even act as a good tutorial for online - just corridor shooting after corridor shooting. Technically impressive on the PS4, but technically impressive counts for nothing if you don't have the gameplay to match. And don't get me started on the hilariously dodgy attempts at storytelling, even if its portrayals of other cultures aren't quite as aggressively racist as some of its contemporaries / close though!

The multiplayer though is glorious 64 player anarchy, and easily worth one's time.

Pretty sure next gen CoD is only in 720p on the Xbone which is dissappointing as the ps4 version is in 1080p.

TBH I'm not sure that makes a vast amount of difference to me.
The game is by the numbers gunw@nk, except this time the bad guys are the Brazilians.
Don't think a slight extra bit of graphical fidelity is going to make it look that much better either.

The single player campaigns in those games are only a bi product now, I'm surprised they haven't even scrapped that part and concentrated fully on the online. I used to play them online and you definitely get your moneys worth if your into it.

I think I'm in the minority these days when it comes to FPS games. I've zero interest, absolute zero, in multiplayer fps gaming. Running around in a sandbox fragging people was fun 15 years ago, but today I find it about is interesting as watching paint dry

The story is the only reason I play most games

Well I'm the same. I got big into multiplayer around 1998, a friend of mine had a lan in his house with 4 PC's. Had a lot of fun playing with my friends. I then kind of migrated into online for counterstrike but the minute people start taking a multiplayer game seriously it's no longer fun for me. I've enjoyed a few multiplayer games since Journey, Minecraft and Demon's/Dark Souls but even stuff like Left 4 Dead were ruined on me. It was fun when it was new but after a month you were getting given out to by people trying to speed run it.

The no communications and the way multiplayer is implemented by the likes of Dark Souls and Journey are the best things to happen to multiplayer in quite some time.

When I hear people talking about playing COD/Battlefield XX online, it's not that far off overhearing conversations about the Premiere League or The X Factor.

Actually it's a bit worse, as people assume I'm into the likes of COD when they hear I play videogames.

Yeah I get that a lot too. Keep getting asked what do I think about the latest CoD or other big blockbuster. I have to give hipster answers when I tell them I've not played it/think it's crap. 'I like videogames, not **** videogames', 'I play the weird stuff', or just plain 'I'm a videogame hipster, ask me about Dark Souls'. Then there's times when someone questions why do I like videogames when all it is about is running around shooting people. It gets difficult to explain that I don't like those games and like the games that aren't about that.

I find a lot of women that have bad opinions about videogames think every person that plays them is like their boyfriend that sits in for hours playing fifa or CoD online

I do get asked it a lot by guys as well.

Totally agree with the last 3-4 posts, thank god it's not only me I thought I was getting old.

Even if I was to play an fps I find the mouse and keyboard with inverted look much better.

Story driven games are mainly what I play these days.

I've never enjoyed multiplayer online gaming.
No, that's a lie.
I enjoyed a game of Quake 3 online via my dial up and a Dreamcast.
And a brief blast of PGR3 until some numpty kept driving around the track the wrong way crashing into people.
And that was that.
I really enjoy a good single player campaign in an FPS but the big hitters are no longer interested in my money, well that's not exactly true, I still have the likes of Deus Ex and Bioshock to keep me company, and if the first person perspective is what keeps me going, there's always Skyrim.

There's two major issues I have with multiplayer these days - well, aside from the fact that so many games that don't need MP have it - I just bought the new Tomb Raider for a few euro and the box proudly boasts of its multiplayer options. I don't ****ing care. Anyway... The first is XP and progression systems. It was a nice novelty when it was introduced, for a game or two, but then basically every game started implementing versions of it (one reason why Left 4 Dead was such a delight - they excluded such a system). It makes the whole thing feel like a chore or even a full-time job, significant elements of the game locked unless you commit the time to it - there's really something to be said for just being able to drop in and play, and not being forced into some time consuming metagame. And then there's map packs - if you're playing the game even a month or two after release, you feel like you're behind the curve unless you start paying more money. Season passes are crazy. There's clearly a massive market for them, but it's a pain for anyone who wants to play the game more casually.

All that said, I am very pleased with Battlefield 4 MP vanilla :pac: I've never had a PC capable of running a game from the series, so it's my first experience and I'm enjoying the scale and anarchy of conquest mode, and I've experienced none of the stability issues being reported online. It's not something I see myself getting addicted to - I'm happily balancing it with playing through many far smaller, more original games I picked up during the Steam sales, like Rogue Legacy and Dust, as well as a few console single player games - but for me anyway it's a new experience, and one I'm having a lot of fun with, even if my kill/death ratio remains dangerously lopsided. I would never celebrate it as a paragon of originality or artistic integrity, but it can have its place in a balanced gaming diet, much as I once upon a time enjoyed my time with Modern Warfare 1. As ever with these things, it's the fact that huge amounts of people only play CoD, Battlefield etc... that is a major cause for concern. Single player BF though? Complete cack.

I find pretty much all multiplayers to be impenetrable, especially once you inevitably move out of these newbie classes; I'm facing people who live on these servers.

I never really played online until 360 so it was kind of a novelty.
Gears of war and Halo in particular took up most of my gaming time. I wouldn't want to see the hours I put in online into those two.
Im still to play soooooo many games. I have loads of games I bought and never once played.
I suppose it's not a bad thing as I won't be buyin a ps4 or Xbox one for at least another year.
Since I've stopped playing online or at least massively curtailed my halo playing I've played and finished a good few games and I'm loving it.
I wonder could online gaming ruin the industry.
If the vast majority of people are playing the likes of Fifa or COD online they're not buying other games which could lead to developers not developing new games or just trying to copy the likes of COD which is already happening.
