These sentences, while I wouldn't argue are deserved, sure do seem to be inconsistent with what would be the norm for such crimes, no?

I mean, child killers I've seen get less than 35 years.

Glad to see such a harsh sentence. There were reports today that he admitted his guilt to spare the court such a harrowing trail. Not only that but he allegedly told someone the abuse was all "mega lolz". Aye, ****ing hilarious.

I have to say, I'm a little shocked by the sentence, especially considering he pleaded guilty not that he didn't deserve it, just going on what others have gotten in the past.

We could do with that kind of sentencing over here!

The publicity surrounding the case probably had something to do with it.

I suspect he'll be kept in solitary confinement for his own safety? Wouldn't be surprised if he committed suicide either though.

An indivudal as clearly depraved as Ian Watkins would most likely get a sick pleasure from it.

Sentences were pretty much as expected. These three individuals are too much of a threat to society to not be incarcerated for a considerable period of time.

35 yrs Thats about fair .hopefully he dies in jail. One thing crossed my mind is How many years Would The sicko get in this panzy state prob 8-10 years and out in 6. Certainly not à 35 yrs anyway

We all know someone who's a bit nuts, that doesn't mean we all know someone who's a depraved child molester.

Your implying that the band members had some knowledge or suspicions about his actions without any evidence is pretty out of order to be honest.

Expected because of media interest you mean?

As I fail to see how these sentences could have been expected based on anything else.

For example, in 2006, this UK couple raped a 12 week old baby they were babysitting, four times, took photos of it and she is now out and he is due for release next year.

Again, wouldn't argue that the sentences weren't justified but they do seem to be far from what you would expect on past sentencing for such crimes.

I would say he will appeal for sure, especially if his solicitor thinks he can show that the judge was influenced by how high profile the case was.

This will be an unpopular opinion but those sentences are pretty much laughable.

In the sense they are too harsh.

They are grossly disproprtionate to the crimes under the application of the law.

Whilst the crimes are abhorrent in nature, to my mind they are no less abhorrent than adult rape. Rape is rape.

What signal does it send out to nonces, paedophiles and the like? It seems to send out the message you can sexually assault adults and expect 6-10 years but go near a baby and you're goosed.

Hardly the message we want here. If it's gonna be 35 years for this then i'm going to be looking in earnest for the next adult rape offender in the same area to be getting 35.

Once we start differentiating solely based on the age of the victim it's a slippery slope. Of course, the babies had no say in what happened to them. But that's effectively the same with rape of any age. It's a crime against your will.

This sentence will be appealed (likely) and altered (almost certainly) downwards.

Tougher sentences for all. Full stop.

There was more than one instance and more than one victim. Consecutive sentencing means it's not that difficult to reach 30 years.

Going by threads about sentences handed down here lately for sexual assault he'd have probably just been asked to pay a fine.
