Why is Eddie Rockets always seen as so expensive?

This is something I personally don't understand, nearly every person I know always refuses to go to Eddie Rockets because it's "too expensive", though have no objection to going to other restaurants which would offer similar value.
You'd be talking about 12 euro maximum for a burger combo meal with a drink and fries. You'd probably spend about 8.50-9.00 maximum in McDonald's. So, it works out 3 euro more than McDonald's, with waiters, a nicer atmosphere and better quality food. They also have quite a few menu options which are difficult to find anywhere else.
So, why do people view Eddie Rockets as so expensive?

They're not anything like as expensive as they were a few years back, and the grub is pretty good. The burgers are savage, real American-style. That reminds me - if anyone finds themselves in the vicinity of Bandon, Billie's Restaurant on the Cork City approach to the town does similar burgers, and they're even more reasonable! :cool:

Eddie rockets is our once a year treat I find the staff in ER in Dundrum absolute darlings

they're not as expensive as they used to be, largely thanks to the meal deal.
but they are still poor value, because there is much better quality food available elsewhere for similar prices.

The local Ediie Rockets back home used to have an ad in the local paper each week and a voucher on the back of the tesco receipts for 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 drinks for 15 euro. That was great value, not sure if they still do that though

Could it be worse than it already was? Ate there in the cresent once when it was Eddie Rockets - had vouchers as it's super expensive for that type of Junk food. But it was very poor - burger was all bun and the chips were gross.

It is an offer always available. It may be for students though.

I've been to Johnny Rocket's.....Eddie Rockets actually tastes better, service was better in the States but that almost goes without saying

Bit a generalisation there! Depends on where you're eating like anywhere the US has bad and good. Overall the beef in the US is all corn fed with with more flavor than grass fed beef - may not be as healthy but it sure tastes good.
Anyway how has a poxy knock-off diner in Ireland brought us on to this? - Sure the beef in there is more than likely from south American.

Burgers are smaller and served in a bag and cardboard. So no dishing up or washing up.
ER's are bigger and get served to you on a plate with cutlery.

Of course it's going to be more expensive

Like Nando's is way dearer that KFC but no one complains about that.

Well the last time I ate there, was about 4 years ago.

I loved their cheese & bacon fries. Their burgers were decent sized and filling, and quite tasty. When out for a burger I preferred them to other restaurants.
One thing most people mistake E.R for, is that it's not a fast food restuarant, with poor quality burgers/chicken.
Their milkshakes are very nice too.

However, no doubt, the quality (like almost everythingelse) has come down in that time.

Both are pretty much bottom of the barrel places to eat?
I'm sure there's more to add to that list....

There are so many nicer alternatives to the Eddie Rockets burger and chips experience, and sometimes at the same price.

But those places don't serve Malt shakes!! Mmmmm

Sounds like a totally different place you were in!
There was enough oil in the beef part of the burger to run a power station. It was disgusting I didn't attempt to finish it - and believe me I've finished dodgy takeaways on several occasions!:D

You have rather different ideas about burgers to me. These days I gets my burgers from the butcher - pure 100% minced striploin. :cool:

Well you know Mercedes and Fiat both make cars.
The Westbury and North Star are both hotels.

Eddie Rockets is a different package to McDonald's in my opinion and appeals to a different market.
