A former neighbour of mine called her kid that. Just sounds like a name you would give your child if she was from an African background. It doesn't belong to a pasty white Irish child. Hate when parents go over the top to give their kid a "unique" name.

Every day until the child was around 5 when the family moved you would hear the following sentences from my bedroom.

"Shaneese your dinners ready"
"Shaneese, Bed time"
Mother roars like something from The Exorcist "Shaneese, GET UP THEM STAIRS NOOOOOOOOW!"

That name and her mother done my head in!

The child was lovely though, very well mannered. I'd change her name if I could, it annoys me that much.

Although my dad DID want to name my brother Kevin when he was born, after Kevin Hunt. Mam rather quickly talked him out of it though.

I met a guy who told me that he named his eldest son, Cullen, after Cuchullain - the mythical gaelic warrior.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that in the story, Cullen was the owner of the hound that Setanta slew.

Setanta had to replace the hound, and thus became known as the hound of Cullen (Cu - Chullain) from then on.

Make sure to research the names a little before going to the registry office.

Boy or girl? If it's a girl she could get away with being called Tammy. Not sure how you'd shorten it for a boy though.

I can't think of too many awful names off hand. I met a girl called Map once, and apparently it wasn't short for anything and wasn't a nickname. I don't necessarily think it's a bad name but it's certainly a weird one.

Cousin of mine has a daughter called Rianna but she was born before the singer ever became famous. They might be regretting that name choice now! :pac:
