Why do people care more about animals than humans ?

Why do some people care more about animals than humans ?

In the thread about the horse being set on fire the debate here is still ongoing,with rightly outrage against what happened,even though it has been reported that the poor horse was already dead.

In the thread about the very unfortunate homeless man who was set on fire and beaten the thread is barely causing a ripple.

My own opinion is that while the two incidents are very serious the murder of the human being should take huge preference over the horse.

And people are more important than animals. Animal cruelty is wrong but there's a line. I would brutally bludgeon 20 puppies to death if that saved the life of a baby.

Indeed - discussion in the horse thread is split pretty much 50/50 between discussion of the actual incident, and the usual AH class warfare because the incident happened in Tallaght. :rolleyes:

Interesting philosophy, but what does it have in regards to the poor homeless feller that died a horrific death by burning ? It's not needed.

I hope the garda detectives find the sick twisted individual/individuals that done this, they sure as hell need to soon, who wants a twisted person like this wandering around and mingling with the public.

I'd personally save an animal first than I would for the person/scum that done this crime. But I am very aware that these scumbags are in the minority, and I also know that there are many real decent human beings out there, but for the particular scum that done this... I wouldn't throw them a line if they were drowning. But that's just my opinion.

I absolutely agree, OP. I have no time for people who claim to care more about animals than humans. Was travelling with a German girl I met in a hostel who told me she'd have more sympathy for a homeless dog than an abandoned baby. I decided then was a good time to make an excuse so we could go our separate ways.

I just can't get my head round that mindset at all.

At least every effort will be made to find who committed such a terrible act on the homeless man -- and if found an appropriate prison sentance will be given. There seems to be rarely any appropriate punishment for animal cruelty.

This site is a spectrum of opinion - one site. Now that the man's death is a murder investigation hopefully it will get more coverage.
I think the real question is how this level of depravity has crept into our society and what can we as people do.
What kind of people take pleasure in these acts and how can they be stopped? I think people need to start seriously lobbying the government for much tougher penalties for crime.Ireland is becoming a very unpleasant place to live.

On OP topic, I would quicker save an animal than a humans life. If I had to pick between them. Human population is larger than most animals. Therefore meaning those animals need saving more than the human.

What has one got to do with the other. It is fallacious to say that just because a person cares about one cause that they care not over an unrelated cause. The OP sounds like they are jealous over anything that gains sympathy except something that they can project themselves onto.

I care about many things. I care because I am emotional. I care about children about politics about social justice. I am one of those bores you all hate and the same people then moan about public apathy. I would not mind so much but these people do not volunteer for ANYTHING.

I volunteer at an animal shelter and occasionally the Simon community.

I often used to get ' Why do you volunteer more for animals then you do for the homeless?'

I responded with ..'well what do YOU volunteer for?' ... more often than not the answer was of course 'nothing'.

Volunteering for animal charities is very rejuvenating and I love it. People are harder and more emotionally draining I find. I still do volunteer for other charities but not as often.

I go to protests and participate in activism.

What does the OP do?

That's only one aspect of humanity like I've said before... regardless humans still outperform animals at nearly everything else.

Also, would you really save an animal over a human just because of the possibility that "there may be more of them"? Thats terrible logic and shows a lack of empathy in my opinion.
