Just thought I'd make a thread on Cork GAA seeing as noone else has made one already. Feel free to talk about anything about Cork GAA, especially hurling and especially the Senior Hurling Championship.

But sure if you had total faith in cuthbhert why raise the question was he rated by the players.
With the greatest respect,people like yourself are something else in fairness,you have a problem with my views fair enough,but to make a slant and insult at my username is a bit much and just laughable when at least when i give my views i cleary state reasons to base them on ,but you in your own words,that you said yourself , your havent a clue what corks best team is,when i asked you to elaborate,but you didnt think the lads i named were good enough for intercounty but you dont know who is better.Which is it,with respect.

I want cuthbhert to succeed,.On the limerick thread a lad posted he had no faith in ,o grady ,tj,and said it was a dissaster.He's a lad that goes to a lot of matches but was straight out in hes opinion and said he would be supporting them but he had concerns ,and o grady unlike our set up is proven.Noboddy got upset over their.

I will be at some league game as they clash with hurling ,all mcgrath cup games and as many training sessions i can get to to support the team.I have just raised concerns that i have.

Thurles the venue for the senior game with wateford.
Great news,walsh park would not suit our style at all.

And if we win,play clare in thurles.

Superb news,thank god we dont have to hurl in gaelic grounds.A fine ptich,super stadium,but cork hurling has an awful record their.

I read the other day that Miltown were senior in Clare for 30 years or so, relegated last year and now gone straight back up. Hoping for a Clyda win but nothing handy about it

Clyda and miltown very hard game to call.Miltown got relegated for the ist time in 125 years,from senior so while clare senior club may not be strong like other counties,that a fair achievement in itself.
Im nt sure theirs many clubs with that record,i know st finbars kept senior hurling status by the skin of their teeth,over a hundred years.

I dont know much about miltown,thats the hardest thing with club games,you cant get to see the opposition and unlike intercounty games video footage is minimal ,and a team may look very good in their championship,true to a poor standard,and then get blown away by better teams.
Gordon kelly corner back against cork this year ,is centre back,malone at full back is meant to be handy ,with malone and cleary up front key men.

Midfield will be key ,james fitzgearld,is a big loss,but conor flanagan and daniel o callaghan should win clean ball,callaghan in particular.Expect kissane,named at 11 in number early to be around midfield contesting the breaks.
He will play a sweeper,behind midfield ,just above half back line of chris buckiey ,fionn o shea and,connor sullivan .Buckley likes to drive forward and can score.

Kissane will drop in the pocket when he does.

Out of the forwards,gavin carey,paudi,cian o sullivan,james murphy,padraig mullane may start for expierence, and seamus ronayne,very fast and nippy ,a good player (u17 cork all ireland medal hurler winner)and on minor panel ,they dont have any player that you would say would get six or seven points etc ,like for example two bennett in hurling got all their club scores last week against grenagh,but what they all do is get a score or two or three points and they still stack up winning totals.And every forward works immensely hard of the ball.

It serves them well,its not a case of shut down or double mark any forward,none are marquee,but unlike some teams ,mtichelstown(when beston was held)they dont go in to panic mode as ,they always rely on each forward chipping in.

It stands them well,their will be a day against teams that have a marquee forward where they fall short but miltown ,while have dangerous forwards,none are household names.

Ray carey is full back and gives them drive and leadership ,and niall o mullane is around 33,and been a terrific servant and very few forwards get the better of him.A fine club player.

Clyda do play a defensive possesim game,but their critics would do well to note,12 poinst out of 15 from play,ten different scores is excellent,if that was any other team,people would be saying its beautfuil,barcelona style etc.

Now its no where near that,but at the same time,not as bad or negative people like to believe,the last two games proved that.Clyda have only conceded a goal all year,and thats sum defence ,and that goal was due to a harsh penalty.

They wont be beaten on goals,have to be outpointed.Interestingly ,talking to a lot of clyda people they said penatly was soft,but Ned english the coach ,was glad it went against them,and that ballypooreen goaled ,as it brought them back in to the game,and really tested hes guys as he knew,winning handy,you paper over cracks.As soon as clyda lost the goal,they regrouped,drove on again.That is the sign of a good team and will stand to them sunday .

Not many managers would of wanted that penalty to go in,he did,shows the shrewd man he is,always thinking of the next game,the end justifes the means.That goal ,could be a blessing disguise,as any complacency in defence will soon be erased,and if concede one sunday,they wont panic.

Miltown are a well organised team,very much like clyda I was told.I was watching cratloe train last night ahead of The dr crokes game next week,and the talk their was their a hard team to breakdown ,and wont fear clyda,and have a huge crowd supporting them.

Unlike cork clare munster final ,last year,this clare team has a real chance.

It could be low scoring,gaelic grounds suit miltown more,but expierence of kissane,carey,o sullivan ,cork minor 2010 all ireland final,could just with the Ned english factor(won munster club senior and success with a lot of clubs) I feel will edge it for clyda.

It could even even end in a draw.It wont be pretty,i doubt either team minds as long as they win .

Kissane coaching clare adds to the game ,he coached them tuesday night.

Club Football is alot stronger in Clare than the intercounty performances would lead one to belive tbh, take Kilmurray for example they have been one of the top teams in Munster for a number of years now, Clyda weren't overly impressive against the Tipp Champions Ballyporeen tbh who weren't exactly standout performers in Tipp and but for a very unfortunate disallowed goal could have caused Clyda serious problems. Cork minor footballers trial tonight at 7 cit,i heard.

Their is a great profile on the Echo,tonight in regards the minor hurlers.A very good article,and a great interview with Denis ring.

I havent seen as big a profile on a cork minor intercounty team in years in a paper,you would get the usal article thats it.Thats shows,what I have said many times,the excitment and expectation a top managament set up brings.The profile of this minor team has be raised to new levels before a ball has even being hit,that is such how landers,ring ,crowley and martin are highely rated.Thats great for the game,and for the profile in cork at underage.

Throw back to last year and this time and not a whisper,and it was case of a preview for the sake of it in the lead up in the summer,a small write up,anyone close to cork hurling ,knew that like the u21 this year are struggling before they start,and its not for lack of talent.Just more of the same.

They trained last sat in st vincents,had players from clubs that emailed them a list who were not in the 63 but felt they should of been.
120 ,last week,with six games.A lot of lads that didnt make the cut are given another chance.

Way better than 2012.,where there was 251.

The panel will be cut down to 30,, at the start of febuary.
They have been like I said before at harty games,and will be at. The Dean Ryan Cup final in cashel tommorrow.

They have as a management team hit the ground running, first underage team ever in cork to formally announce a provisonal panel to the public,footballers havent.The first cork team this year to do so.

Also they have communcated that its down to 30 in febuary ,and actively looking at all games to asses players.Theirs already a clear indication and line of sight in to the direction the team is heading.Its been utterly professional so far.

As I said yesterday,all the talk was about them.

At every game I was at ,that I have talked to people ,no one yet has had any reservations about the set up.

Seeing tomas o leary with the team and cup in the photo today from 2001,makes me think that the irish press cup may be returining to leeside in the next two years.

YA CLYDA OPENED AS OUTSIDERS which surprised me a lot.. money has come in and rightly fav now in my opinion. ive seen miltown a few times this year and while r playing some good football.. were very lucky to overcome currow in the last round.. (midfielder sent off before half time .. kicked five wides in first ten mins from in front off goal and hit post in second half when goalie had no chance.. and still only lost by a single point). its clyda for me.

I didnt see the currow game now,but I would never say any club team is unbeatable,mount gabriels proved that sunday in the hurling with a big upset.

Should be close game.

With Eoin Moloney in goal ,Sean O Connor at full back (done a good job on rockies ace proflic and potential cork forward Michael o Halloran in the drawn u16 County final better than anyone else has managed to do against him the last month)Seanda Smith a centre back that can influence a game and along with Mike Millerick, and Daniel Harrington they have a good defence at the back.

Midfield,john looney ( cork minor panel)and brendan maccarthy are good hurlers and if they break even as in the forwards any of Killan Tracey,Kevin Moyinhan,Josh Beausang,Jack mcdonnell can all do a job if they get good ball.

The key man is Garan Manley,a real talent (cork development squad player)is lethal from placed balls and play.Son of Ger (great goal cork 92 all ireland senior final against kk as a sub)he is a very good player,and very fast and strong for hes age.

Against Thurles got nearly half hes team totals with 1-11.
In the quater and semifinal he has totalled 1-16.Some scoring.
A very good hurler.
Ronan Dwanye ,Sean Hurley ,Seamus Murphy have done a good job coaching them.

They won the quater final easily,but it was good that they were able to grind out a one point win against a much rated blackwater (denis ring,pa cronin) in the semifinal which will surely stand to them entering the final.

All they can do is their best and the result will take care of itself .They are a credit for getting to the final,and im sure they will give it their all Saturday.

A huge game tomorrow.Midelton have smith,looney and maccarthy that played in the harty cup ,i hope the loss tuesday doesnt affect them too much.
I read tonight ,that Brian corcanan was on the last mideleton team to win the dean ryan in 1989.

This game is finally taking place tommorrow.

From a limerick paper-their view on their side

ARDSCOIL Ris bid add another Munster top flight hurling championship to their roll of honour in this Saturday’s Munster U-16 1/2 hurling final.

The Dean Ryan final takes place in Cashel at 1.30 against Midleton CBS of Cork.

The city side won this competition in 2008.

That win over St Flannan’s was their first ever title at the top level in Munster colleges hurling and a first Dean Ryan title for Limerick since Limerick CBS in 1968.

Saturday will be Ardscoil’s third Dean Ryan final - they lost to Flannan’s in 2005.

The north Circular Road secondary school are managed by teachers Niall Moran and Fergal Lyons.

They have joint-captains - Nathan Fox (Parteen) and Peter Casey (Na Piarsaigh).

Key to the aspirations of Ardscoil Ris will be centre back Oisin Bernard of Adare, Conor Fitzgerald (Claughaun), John Flynn (Patrickswell), Paraic O’Loughlin (Clonlara) and Na Piarsaigh’s Conor Houlihan and Peter Casey.

In their semi-final, Ardscoil Ris needed extra time to beat Our Lady’s Templemore, 4-15 to 1-16.

Ard scoil are another Limerick hurling team, with a cork link to.

Conor boylan is a limerick man,but hes father David is a midelton man orignally,now hes a doctor in limerick.
He won two county senior championships and a munster club in 83 with Midelton.A very good hurler by all accounts.
David is a selector sunday with Na piarsaigh in the Munster Club Final.

Thats sum panel in fairness for a schools team,Ard scoil have.Close to 40 ,players their. Their like a Minor intercounty team.
Midelton at most have around 25 i'd say.

Get in their clyda rovers ,Munster champions,only the third cork club to win this.

Thats a superb way ,a small club,out of no where ,Elite men in munster.
A credit to Cork football ,the only cork football club to win munster this year.

Ned English a born winner.Four down,they never panicked.That comes from English.
The defence like I said yesterday was excellent,the cornerstone of the team.No goal conceded.

A superb win , for Midelton cbs and I dont think the win can be underestimated or taken out of context in any way in Cork hurling or the signifiscance it has to Cork underage hurling,when you take in to account
(1)this wasnt just another team they beat, where you could say ,theirs a huge gap between schools and intercounty .This was a schools u16 team,panel of over 40 that were as professional in terms of coaching,nutriton,anaylis of matches etc ,and with the pick of the best of limerick and clare ,this Ard scoil coached by a former intercounty hurler in Moran ,were like an intercounty team bar in name only.They beat an excellent team,with a lot of limerick and clare development intercounty players.

(2) No cork team had won this compared to a limerick team in ages,so the odds werent in midelton cbs favour.

(3)i beileve they had to win it without ace marksman and top scorer Garan manley who couldnt play.A huge loss to any team,and credit to padraig o brien and the team for making up for the loss.

(4)The school lost a game they were favourites to win in the harty cup during the week against rochestown.Mccarthy,looney,smith all had to play a second game within four days.To win today shows superb resilence for a young team.

Midelton had lost to newtown heavily in u16 league final last saturday with a few playing.

To win having being four down at half time ,and with all the above reasons taken in to account shows tremendous character and team spirit for such young lads that can only be applauded.Out of 1-14 all scores were from play.
Thats is pheonamal scoring in any game.

Win or loose from whatever happens in the all ireland series,midelton cbs have already done tremendously well .You won't or cant expect all of this team to repersent cork teams down the line,as for a variety of reasons as with any schools teams that wont happen.What it has done today,is shows that cork hurling at schools is up their with the best and the standard is getting better all the time.

The tonic this gives cork underage is superb.When cork won minors in 95 and 2001 midelton and st colmans were dominant at schools.Schools level is linked to minor ,and minor linked to u21 etc,and u21 to senior.

Its a stepping stone.

Cork also have hamilton,charville ,and either midelton or rochestown in the harty cup quaterfinals.3 cork teams is pretty good out of tough groups.

Midelton won the rice college cup ,but outside that up to today no cork underage team has won a munster title since the U21 team Since 2007.

At a time with a new minor management set up its a great tonic.
Ronan dywane,sean hurley and all involved deserve great credit for the work they done.Hurley coached a harty cup winning team before and it shows he knows how to win.

Midelton u21 hurlers play the Rockies tommorrow in a county final.Its been a tremendous year for Midelton ,at all levels.Future is bright.
And they can only be admired for all the great work their doing their.

Clyda were superb.The key that makes the difference in winning and loosing at any game,any level ,is composure ,and doing the right thing at the vital moments in the game.

The vital moment for me today was the ist 15 minutes.Down 4 to nil ,they like many other teams would panic,forget what the plan was,deviate from it and play a game akin to them.

For example ,clydas best strength hass been defence.They dont concede more tham 12 points a game, as that always gives them a chance of getting a winning total up front,as in truth they dont have the forwards to win a shootout.

Four down,they could have panicked like in 2011 ,and went against what they know,and went all out attack.That would have cost them the game,as it would have given miltown the space they craved and they had with curtin and the super cleary the abilty to run havoc.

No,they stuck to the tried and trusted,never lost the belief in the game plan(english is key to that plan and belief in it)and realised if they settle down the nerves,their still well capable of winning,as the chances will come and the defence is more than capable of holding their own.And did they hold it,they were magnificent .

They just conceded 3 points the last 50 minutes of the game.Thats super defending,and murphy after a shaky start,with kissane,mullane and Chris buckley,who I said loves to attack got a super point.
They were very composed,kissane playing in the pocket like I expected hoovering up any ball,and running from deep.Fitzgeard started and was superb,considering hes injury problems.

Gavin carey,niall o nullane,fionn o shea and ray carey superb at full back ,were imperous in defence while every forward ran himself in to the ground with the work of the ball,always tackilng,back in defence,dropping deep to take a pass,then driving forward to create.
Mitlown are a fine,fine team,resilent,and well organised ,but got very frustrated as they couldnt break down the clyda fortress.In truth its hard to single any player out,as every one were Heroic today.Simply Heroic.

It wasnt that they had bad forwards far from it,they couldnt get in to scoring positions and when they did,always had to hurry and rush the shot,clyd were like wolves,hunted in packs,never gave miltown a breather.And clyda kept possesim and were ecomical and intelligent with it.
Clyda as someome said hear have great women and men involved at the club.He is spot on.They are a club in every respect.
Every one in the parish is involved in the club,making the tea,sandwiches,doing the gear etc.Everyone is part of it.
Makes the victory sweeter.

What Clyda do is simple ,and is far from rocket science.It should be a template for all cork clubs.
Play a game thats suited to your rescources ,no point trying to play champagne football on heavy ptiches when you dont have the players.Unfortunately not everyone have the rescources of nemo or dr crokes.

The second thing a club should do is get in a manager proven,and as much as people will try and convince you,that good managers aint cheap,is not always true.Ned english is a prime example,mossie barrett also,men that look for nothing,they manage as their true football men.
Eammon ryan would hardly get expenses like in the mans game,but he does it for the love of the game.

When you do anything in life with the right reasons for it ,and hold true to does values ,success and good fortune is never far away.Always a great balance to have.

The loosing of three county finals has been an invalauble lesson to clyda.They know that days like to day are not always around,and for such a small club ,and pick,no guarantee they will have this oppurtinty again.Many teams win cork,and thats their holy grail.

Clyda havent really celebrated the cork win,and wont go overboard tonight ,as they realise that this is their moment, and know the pain of loosing ,so they wont rest on their laurels.The hunger that has been born in them,for never having much ,but fight for everything ,and heartbreaking defeats down the years, will ensure they are not easy fodder for any team.

Im not sure who they play next.But as you enter the closing stages,the lack of a marquee forward may cost them down the line.But it certainly won't be for lack of effort or prepartion.Thats for another day.

Tonight cork football belongs to Clyda rovers ,the first cork side in seven years to break kerrys domminace at that level.
Win or loose from hear on in,they have done Cork football proud.
People that criticise them,showed looked beneath their style ,and look at them from where they come from.Its then you appreciate what a Great club they are.

(3)i beileve they had to win it without ace marksman and top scorer Garan manley who couldnt play.A huge loss to any team,and credit to padraig o brien and the team for making up for the loss.

(4)The school lost a game they were favourites to win in the harty cup during the week against rochestown.Mccarthy,looney,smith all had to play a second game within four days.To win today shows superb resilence for a young team.

Midelton had lost to newtown heavily in u16 league final last saturday with a few playing.

To win having being four down at half time ,and with all the above reasons taken in to account shows tremendous character and team spirit for such young lads that can only be applauded.Out of 1-14 all scores were from play.
Thats is pheonamal scoring in any game.

Win or loose from whatever happens in the all ireland series,midelton cbs have already done tremendously well .You won't or cant expect all of this team to repersent cork teams down the line,as for a variety of reasons as with any schools teams that wont happen.What it has done today,is shows that cork hurling at schools is up their with the best and the standard is getting better all the time.

The tonic this gives cork underage is superb.When cork won minors in 95 and 2001 midelton and st colmans were dominant at schools.Schools level is linked to minor ,and minor linked to u21 etc,and u21 to senior.

Its a stepping stone.

Cork also have hamilton,charville ,and either midelton or rochestown in the harty cup quaterfinals.3 cork teams is pretty good out of tough groups.

Midelton won the rice college cup ,but outside that up to today no cork underage team has won a munster title since the U21 team Since 2007.

At a time with a new minor management set up its a great tonic.
Ronan dywane,sean hurley and all involved deserve great credit for the work they done.Hurley coached a harty cup winning team before and it shows he knows how to win.

Midelton u21 hurlers play the Rockies tommorrow in a county final.Its been a tremendous year for Midelton ,at all levels.Future is bright.
And they can only be admired for all the great work their doing their.

And I think charleville CBS will be playing in the kinnane cup final on Tuesday !! Good year for cork juvenile hurling

Blackrock are the defending champions and county champions and going for two in a row.This could be epic.Another top class cork hurling game to look forward to.
Midelton champions in 2011 against 2012 champions,have about seven of the senior panel and six that won in 2011 ,playing against blackrock that are cleaning up at underage.

Midelton are doing superb at all levels.
The seniors are in a senior hurling league semifinal thursday night.

Midelton cbs had a superb win yesterday,and are in the o callaghan senior schools cup final against hamiltion this friday night.

Lehane could be the difference here, but blackrock have real scoring potential.I expect this to be pure hurling,both teams play the way their coaches played,pat hartnett and wayne sherlock.

It will be interesting who picks lehane up,murphy probably.Thats a fine half back line ,and Niall cashman may watch lehane.

Captain of the minor winning side ,son of the great jim, and it super form at u21 and also at harty cup level where was meant to have been immense against midelton during the week.A fine talent,3 more years at u21.

Andrew hayes and stephen moore should be a good battle.Alan o callaghan if he gets good ball will give o mahony a tough day at full back.
The blackrock full forward line of nolan,o callaghan,and o keofee have the potential to cause problems for the midelton full back line,which isnt the strongest aera of their team.
Coughlan and finbarr o mahony are very good in the half back line.
Where they may have the edge is at midfield.Moving killan burke to midfield against mallow,was a masterstroke by hartnett,and that will give them an advantage in a crucial aera.
If cashman doesnt mark lehane,id expect him to mark walsh,who is a terrific hurler.Bud hartnett has not reached the level he can at this grade.,eoin maccarthy wont give him much space.

Lehane on hes day could beat blackrock on hes own,but blackrock wont be able to keep him scoreless ,as no team could ,they will hope to do what mallow and the bridge have done ,in limit hes influence. he is averaging to get a goal and a five even on a poor day.He is some player.

Stephen murphy is a huge player for the rockies and will win ball and can score at half forward.Paul delaney will target him with the puckouts.

Its a tough game to call as ,both are very good teams.The freshness of blackrock,compared to midelton who have played around seven games in as many weeks ,and two huge games the last three weeks ,could have a huge factor.

Hunger or confidence wont be a problem for either team.Blackrocks lads have won this last year ,and also won at minor.
Midelton have won at minor,u21 and senior.They will want another title.

Who ever wins ,are worthy champions ,and both have players that have reperesented cork at various levels.Blackrock may edge it,have more a spread of scorers across all the forwards.
