There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

I did drop in to have a look about a year ago. I wanted to book a dinner around Christmas for a bunch of people. The menu was fine, as far as I recall, but the evening I dropped by (Friday evening in December) the place was really quiet and that's what put me off.

Same here, was there for a birthday dinner September last year, food was good, but there was us and perhaps 2 other tables, so it was a bit odd in what is quite a large room. Service excellent though of course with just 3 seatings!

Oh I dunno, I've had a halloumi salad there that rocked my world and their fries are amazing (triple fried!).

Surprised someone would say it was quiet on a Friday nigh, one of the best restaurants in Cork. I reckon the mains are my favorite of any Cork restaurant but thin they could improve the desserts.

Really? Have you been recently? We do tend to go out fairly early for dinner (7-7.30pm average) so it maybe gets busy later in the night.

My mum hates Jacob's because of the lack of atmosphere there too. She likens it to eating in a warehouse. I haven't been there in years myself, so I can't give my own opinion.

Thumbs up for Iyer's on Pope's Quay also in terms of food, finally got there after a number of failed attempts and enjoyed it very much. I have no dietary exclusion requirements but it is brilliant for those who do. I'll definitely be going there again, sooner rather than later I hope!

I probably only eat there twice a year (moved to west cork some years back) and the last time was at the beginning of the summer probably around half 8 and while not full it was busy.

Visited Iyers today and it was super, we had masala dosa, thali, some kindof split pea fritters and for dessert chai brownie and rosewater cake - delicious! Can't wait to go back, great to have a place like this in Cork. The waitress that was on was brilliant as well and talked us through the whole menu and what everything was which was very handy. Would definitely recommend!

Wen to Kudos recently for lunch and cant say I was impressed defo would not be going back. The service was great alrite but the food nope. I got the chicken and you could barely cut through it twas so tough.. Blackrock Castle though is quite nice. We went for late dinner and was well impressed

Went there a few weeks ago, it is a lovely chilled out place, very relaxed and cosy. Lovely platters to share and they do coffee, soup, arbutus bread sandwiches during the day too. I felt some stuffed vine leaves or stuffed peppers or something else could be a good addition to the veggie platter. We will go back again.

Will have car so location not a problem.

My first suggestions are Lal Quilla (Indian) and Luyan Briar Rose (Chinese) but it's a while since I was there.

In town, I'd recommend Sakura (Chinese pretending to be Japanese but doing it quite well), Market Lane (Mod Irish).

Drive up through the tunnel and hook left for Glounthaune and The Rising Tide can be very good.

Luyan briar rose is closed a few months I think.

The lebanese place in the city center... Sultans, has a shisha lounge for something a bit different. It opened this year.

If by good value you mean pub food type large portions.... Silver key would be the nearest to you.

Stay away from Lal Quila and instead go to Haveli. Much better food, much better service, much nicer staff. I lived in Douglas for years and went to Lal Quila for years but the service and food quality got worse and worse every time. Our last visit they were very rude to my wife and I, and we had always tipped well.

Haveli is such a breath of fresh air and FAR tastier.

Went to the Pery St market Café for lunch today. It was jointed! Nice sandwiches, but overpriced though. And as we were just finishing off our coffees we were asked by a staff member if we were leaving! We were barely there 25 minutes and would have considered having another coffee or desert. I know it's busy but the question is "would you like anything else?" not "are you going now?" :mad:

Nice spot but the service is atrocious.

As much as it pains me to say it, Haveli really does reign over Lal Quila at the moment, the staff are great too and very generous with the freebies!

South County do nice pub food, prices are ok, friendly too.
La Quila is nice but expensive, I don't mind that so much for a treat but they now do different types of cuisine (pizza/italian/chinese), I know it's a business but personally I would lower the prices a tad and stick to Indian.
Haveli - been there once, think it was ok, long time ago.
Market Lane do kind of an Early Bird Menu on Sundays between 1-7pm, 3 course (might include tea/coffee - desserts are very small but other dishes are perfect portions) all for €20pp. They do a good lunch deal too, soup and sandwich and mini chocolate pot for €10.
My favourite restaurant is Wagamama but that's fast food I suppose.
Cafe Paradiso is lovely but from my experience expensive and small portions.
Jacques - haven't been but I believe it's good.

I had really good memories of Lal Quila from living in Cork, but on my last visit back, we found it had gone seriously downhill. What used to be pretty authentic Indian (wonderful achari curry) had turned into a poor, generic spot, which was also serving pizza etc.

My recommendations: Cornstore for steak, Yuan Ming Yuan for Chinese, Market Lane for Early Bird/Set Menu, Jacques & Rising Tide. The Fish Bar in the Electric is also excellent
