There was something I really liked about it.

Third party is the biggest part of a lot of insurance policies, especially if your car is older as it value depreciates significantly

Well that was an interesting half hour!

A family member pulled a rather large sickie and had to be took off to hospital, there was no ambulance for another hour so i had to play ambulance man, going along the motorway fairly lively and the traffic corps stops me, i give them the situation and they escort me into naas hospital

Fun times! Said member of family is there now being looked after, all is well

I saw one of my old cars today, a 98 antelope coloured 1.6 Vectra.

Without doubt the biggest heap of dirt I have ever owned! I cant believe its still on the road. I bought it in early 00 with less than 40k on it. In the 18monts I owned it.
Timing belt bearings failed,
Rear suspension collapsed,
Alternator failed,
Starter failed,
Rear door catches started to rust,
Water pump failed,
Many electrical issues

Every time I brought it back to the garage I got the same answer..."sur dat happens to all of dem":rolleyes:

They seem to go one way or the other. The one I've bought to tide me over seems to have been fine up until now in its life but I've heard countless tales of woe in the past about them.

AS an aside I've been looking at cars in the UK this morning as I'm over here and had some spare time this morning. The experience of shopping here and in Ireland is like chalk and cheese.

You will have seen this car as it lived just outside Nenagh for 4 years after I sold it (and gave absolutely no trouble to that owner the pos:rolleyes:) and the last time I saw it was for sale on the side of the road, just down from that crash repair place near you. It was 98 LS 14xx

I think I recall it alright. Funnily enough I watched the TopGear review of the Vectra B last night and got a good laugh out of it.

JC was right, it's a complete MEH car. Nothing really wrong with it and nothing that stands out. I'll give it a good clean and polish with teh DA on Saturday if the weather is right. Hopefully get it looking shiny anyway.

Today I took a leaf out for a test drive.
Well equipped with gadgets. Good room inside, the back was roomy enough with good height. Seats were ok.
Build quality was good, though nothing fancy.
It drove as expected, steering was very light. The lack of sound takes a bit of getting use to. The power wasn't much but you shouldn't expect it to be.

It is worth thinking about as a second car for us, though the figures will need to add up first.

The road is in bits, it literally has lumps taken out of it that you can't avoid.
